Questions & Answers
Question: What’s the best Korean drama you can recommend to me?
Answer: If you're into romantic dramas right now, I recommend you to check out Tomorrow, With You. It's light, warm, and sweet!
Question: Are there any K-dramas exactly like Boys Over Flowers?
Answer: Honestly, BOF is unique on its own, so finding an exact drama to compare is just impossible. But yes, there are some dramas with the same "Boys Over Flowers" feel, such as:
1. You're Beautiful - A love story of three popular boys and one poor girl. The vibe is exactly like BOF.
2. Coffee Prince - A girl working in a coffee shop while pretending to be a boy.
3. The Heirs - A high school setup. High school romance with a simpler plot, but top-rated actors.
4. Flower Boy Next Door - A sweet and romantic comedy with a lighter feeling.
There you go. These are some of the dramas that I know.
Question: What is your favorite Korean drama that you would recommend?
Answer: My favorite Korean drama that I would want to recommend right now is "Come and Hug Me." I know it's not as high-rated as the other K-dramas, but it's so worth watching, and I hope you'll check it too. It's an ongoing series, and so far we have 20 episodes, which are so great. But make sure you have your tissues ready because this will make you cry a river of tears!
Question: What is a good drama for people who wants horror, but with elements of fantasy and/or romance?
Answer: Some of the creepy, spooky drama with fantasy and romance are Soul (also known as Hon), The Master's Sun, Oh My Ghostess, Suspicious Housekeeper, Let's Fight Ghost, Arang and the Magistrate, and Gu Family Book.
For romantic dramas with supernatural elements, you can check out My Love From the Star, Chicago Typewriter, A Korean Odyssey, Goblin, and My Girlfriend is a Nine-Tailed Fox.
For dramas with strong suspense and thriller but has a romantic love line, you can watch I Hear Your Voice, Healer, Yong Pal, The K2, Doctor Stranger, and Come and Hug Me.
Question: Why are Korean dramas so lovable?
Answer: There are three reasons why K-dramas are so lovable and addicting:
1. We always look forward to romance, romance, and romance, which is the usual hooking element in a K-drama.
2. It doesn't matter if it's about rich and poor, love triangles, gender-bender female leads, a male lead who is handsome but has a nasty character, and amnesia plots: each series has a unique love line even though the theme is cliched.
3. We simply love Korean actors. We even have the "second male lead syndrome" because we can't afford for our "oppa" to get hurt. We just love them so much.
Question: Can you recommend some good, new Korean dramas?
Answer: Right now I'd really like everyone to watch Chicago Typewriter. It's super amazing and very original. We also have good new dramas, such as Radio Romance, Cross, and Mother. You might also want to check out my latest K-drama list, entitled "The 25 Best Korean Dramas, Part 2".
Question: Is "The Legend of the Blue Sea" a good drama?
Answer: I personally think it's good, but not great. Jun Ji-hyun and Lee Min-ho are both superb actors, and I expected a lot from them. But they lacked chemistry in the drama, which is a bit turn off. The plot is quite cliched and predictable, especially if you have watched too many romantic dramas. But you can still enjoy it if you're looking for a fairy tale or fantasy-themed drama. Hope that helps!
Question: Why is Goblin not included here?
Answer: I understand that Goblin is a highly popular series that should have made the list, however, this was made before Goblin was aired. I created a new list of best K-dramas, and rest assured that Goblin is there along with the recent hit dramas.
Question: Is ''Kill Me, Heal Me'' a good drama?
Answer: Yes, it's a very, very good drama. The story is unique and the actors are brilliant!
Question: What is the best K-drama that I should watch?
Answer: It's hard to name only one drama, when in fact, there are too many good dramas that I consider the "best" in their own unique way. Maybe you'd like to check out five of the "best" dramas for me, which are:
• It's Okay, That's Love - Best rom-com drama for me
•You're Beautiful - My favorite classic drama
•Chicago Typewriter - Unique, elegant, and the best time-traveling drama
•I'm Not a Robot - Cutest rom-com drama
•Bridal Mask - Best historical-political drama
Question: Is "Moon Embracing The Sun" a good drama?
Answer: For me, it's a good drama, especially when you're into historical K-dramas. It has great acting, good story, and beautiful characters!
Question: I've seen almost all of these dramas but wondered why Empress Ki, in particular, wasn't on the list? It's actually one of the best dramas, and the cast showed superb acting skills. That drama was a big hit at that time and won so many awards.
Answer: I agree with you. Empress Ki is an international hit. It's sad that it's not here on the list, so I included it in the "part two" article of this best K-drama list.
Question: When will actor Lee Min Ho star in a new drama?
Answer: Lee Min-ho is currently serving his mandatory military service, so we can't say exactly when his next drama will be. Probably a couple of months after his service, he will make a big or small screen comeback.
Question: What are some new Korean dramas that I can watch?
Answer: Hi there. Here are some of the ongoing dramas that you can check out:
1. The Great Seducer- It's the talk of the K-community right now. The story is based on a novel, so it's good to read the novel and see the drama if you want to dig a deeper analysis.
2. Live - A story about cops who struggle with their everyday lives. If you're looking for a realistic plot with motivational spices, then this one's for you.
3. The Grand Prince - Here is another historical drama with love triangle in it. You might want to see it because the villains here are intense.
4. Switch, Change the World - A hyped, cool, and chilling drama within the action genre that seems enjoyable and not boring at all.
5. Laughter in Waikiki - It's light, comical, and a good one to watch if you want to relieve heavy feelings and relax for a while. Baby Sol will let your stress wings fly away.
I hope this short list will satisfy your K-drama cravings. Some of the dramas that I haven't checked yet are "A Poem a Day" and "That Man Oh Soo." Have you seen it already? Please let me know your thoughts about it!
Question: What's the best Korean drama that you can recommend?
Answer: The best K-drama that I would like to recommend to everyone is "It's Okay, That's Love." Everything is beautiful: the script, the plot twist, the casts, and the OSTs.
Question: Why isn't "You're Beautiful" on the list? I think it's amazing.
Answer: That's what I thought too! I love Park Shin-hye together with the beautiful boys! I am so sorry for not putting it in here, but honestly, there are so many good dramas that I haven't included on the list. There are new dramas that are great which I also wanted to share with everyone, so I am thinking of making a "Part 2" of this list very soon.
Question: I have watched many Korean dramas, and now I do not know what to watch. Can you please recommend a good drama?
Answer: There are many great Korean dramas that I haven't included in this list. The number one drama I'll recommend is "It's Okay, That's Love". The story is beautiful and the characters are great! Other dramas I personally like are Korean Odyssey (it's ongoing), Fight for My Way, Hwarang, Strong Woman Do Bong Soon, Kill Me, Heal Me, Warm and Cozy, Remember: War of the Son, Love in the Moonlight, Beautiful Mind, Empress Ki, Healer, and Moon Lovers. That's it for now, I hope you like these dramas, and happy watching!
Question: What are some of 2019 original Netflix Korean dramas to watch?
Answer: So far, we have 3 original Netflix dramas for 2019. First is "Kingdom", a period drama with 6 episodes about Joseon being attacked by zombies. A second season is coming so we'll better watch out. Second is the upcoming rom-com, "Love Alarm" with 8 episodes, starring Kim So-hyun. Third is the highly anticipated campus romance, "Because It’s My First Love" starring Ji Soo, Jung Jin-young, and Jung Chae-yeon with 8 episodes.
Question: Which Korean dramas have a lead actress dressed-up as a male?
Answer: Some gender-bender dramas with female lead in disguise are:
1. You're Beautiful - My all-time favorite, classy drama featuring Park Shin-Hye as a boy member of the K-pop band, A.N.Jell.
2. Coffee Prince - Another great drama to watch. Yoon Eun-hye's acting as a male is totally on point!
3. Sungkyunkwan Scandal - It's a great historical drama, with Park Min-Young playing a male scholar.
4. Love in the Moonlight - Kim Yoo-jung enters the palace as a eunuch, but Crown Prince Park Bo-gum fell in love with her.
5. To The Beautiful You - A cheesy drama where Sulli enrolls in an all-boys school.
Other dramas where girls pretend to be boys are: Ma Boy, Painter of the Wind, Nail Shop Paris, and Queen Seon Deok.
Question: So far, which new Korean drama is today the best and most colorful?
Answer: Many ongoing dramas this April are cool, but the one that I anticipate the most is Switch. The exciting plot twists and characters are so vibrant that I can't hardly wait for next week to see what's next. Unpredictable and no boring scenes at all. Plus, you have to exercise your mind to know what's under the sleeves of each character! The actors are really good as well. Jang Keun-suk perfectly fits the tricky role of a con-man and prosecutor, and Han Ye-ri is just so cool and I don't think her quick-witted character will disappoint you. Jung Woong-in makes the perfect villain, together with Manager Kim and Cho Sung-do.

Most of these are all pretty much fluff. Fun watch...but definitely NOT among the best 25.
Jacqueline G Rozell on February 01, 2020:
I'm losing much of the pleasure I used to have in Korean dramas, or rather in the presentation of them. What I liked was being able to watch from beginning to end... now they are soap operas or more like national TV with "seasons" and cliff hangers. I actually pull one up now, go to the very last scene in the series and watch the last ten minutes just to see if it is "continued." If it is I won't watch it. Vagabond made me this way. To think there won't be a sequel is just too insulting.
Palak Bansal on January 18, 2020:
"Legend of the blue sea" is my favorite K-Drama. Its amazing, beautiful, heartbreaking and a complete package. I think everyone should watch it.

My favorite kdramas are goblin, strong woman do bong soon, what's wrong with secretary kim?, who are you: school 2015, come and hug me, suspicious partner, the heirs, healer, weightlifting fairy kim bok joo, a korean odyssey, W: two world apart, city hunter, DOTS, fight for my way, melting me softly, marriage contract

Jacqueline G Rozell on December 06, 2019:
With drama such as Vagabond and Arthdal Chronicals, the Asian productions are really stepping up their game. Let's just hope they don't become so ambitious they get one season done and don't have the energy or resources for a Season Two that will tie up loose ends and answer questions that leave viewers hanging. I no longer watch new series offerings on network TV for that reason. Get involved in something, they cancel it without tying it up. And the staple of Asian drama is the love story. We can't live without love.! Just.... please, please, give us Season Two of Vagabond and Arthdal Chronicals!!!!

Princess Hours, The Heirs, Boys over Flowers, and Rookie Historian!!!

I recommend "Uncontrollably fond" it is the most beautiful drama that I've ever seen. I love Suzy and Kim Woo Bin they show so much emotions in this drama.
Jacqueline G Rozell on November 12, 2019:
Everyone has a favorite, or many favorites. There are so many good and great ones. This past weekend I wasn't feeling well and binged on The K-2... again. I keep checking Netflix and Hulu to see if either has brought back Playful Kiss which is one I could watch over and over. The theme song, "One More Time," is so haunting and beautiful.

kdramaconnoisser on November 19, 2018:
Since everyone’s listing their recommendations, I figured I might as well:
Dream High (only suggest season 1 because the second one was absolutely dreadful)
Scarlet Heart Ryeo (forever iconic. even though the drama itself isn’t the most original or outstanding, all the actors bring the story to life)
Hwarang (all in all a masterpiece)
Kill Me Heal Me (I can rave about this one all day: beautifully written, beautifully casted, beautifully portrayed, etc...)
I’m Not A Robot (for all of the Beauty and the Beast fans everywhere)
Black (anyone who loves a mix of comedy, thriller and romance with phenomenal actors buckle up!)
W (can’t say this one didn’t mess me up but only the good dramas do :)
Boys With Flowers (okay I get it. you’re sick of hearing about F4. but you’ve got to trust me on this one! this is definitely the best adaptation of the story in my opinion!)
Reply 1988 (of course i’m biased, but this show provided me with a lot of feels. seriously this show is the best kind of rollercoaster and is a perfect detox for stress)
Suspicious Partner (what? it’s a classic romcom centered around the court. who wouldn’t want to watch it?)
Lawless Lawyers (okay but like fair warning you will never recover from this show. it’s just that good! * also lee joon gi*)
Strong Woman Do Bong Soon (one of the dramas that is forever in my heart! you’ll find yourself never wanting to stop watching this drama! it’s a guaranteed laugh and you’ll love the romance. and to top it all off, it also has thriller elements)
Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo (has to be in my top 10 kdrama list of all time simply because it has a ship even the largest iceberg couldn’t sink)
While You Were Sleeping (you absolutely can’t miss out on this one. it’s one of the rare well rounded kdrama out there and for that reason alone, it should definitely be under your radar)
These are all of the ones I could think of off the top of my head. I’ll add more later :)

IMO a newbie who has never watched a Kdrama needs to watch the old cliche classic dramas that were so sappy you just couldn’t look away. Love the new contemporary ones with more creative plots, but those weren’t the ones that put Kdrama on the map
1. Boys Over Flowers has to be #1 or they won’t appreciate it later cuz this one has EVERY cliche in the book (except gender bender)
2. Coffee Prince
3. Secret Garden
5. My GF is a Gumiho
6. You Are Beautiful
7. Reply 1997
8. My Girl
9. Delightful Girl
10. Dream High

I don't understand why The Heirs is one of the top. The main actress is hopeless. She looks so tortured kissing Kim Tan, who has sacrificed everything for her. I think the casting crew made a mistake in making her the lead actress.
