The 26 Best K-Dramas of 2013-2016
26. Happy Home (2016)
This is a family drama that tells the life and struggles of Bong family who run the Chinese restaurant Gahwamansasung. It stars Kim So-yeon, Lee Sang-woo, and Lee Pil-mo. Happy Home is the first K-drama of Kim So-yeon in which she plays the character of a housewife.
25. Pied Piper (2016)
Pied Piper is K-drama that centers on the story of a police negotiation team as they take their journey on solving cases without using any force. The team works on different cases such as suicides, homicides, hostage situations, and terrorist attacks. So if you love a drama related to police and crimes then watch it now!
24. Neighborhood’s Hero (Local Hero) (2016)
Neighborhood’s Hero starred Park Si-hoo, Lee Soo-hyuk, and Kwon Yuri. This is the comeback drama of Park Si-hoo after he starred in Cheongdamdong Alice (2012) with Moon Geum-young. In his three-year hiatus from the small screen, Park had focused on doing movies such as Scent (2014) and After Love (2015).
This drama is about an ex-secret agent who buys and runs the bar “Neighborhood.” Bek Shi-Yoon was once a human weapon. He hides his past from other people and lives a normal life. But when he meets a young man who dreams of becoming a police officer, he trains this man, and together they fight against evil.
23. Mask (2015)
This drama stars Soo Ae and Ju Ji-hoon playing the lead role. It is another must-watch drama that centers on romance and revenge. Upon hearing that Soo Ae will play the lead role, it really makes me excited. She is the best actress who can portray the protagonist-antagonist role at the same time in a drama.
Of course, this drama is not complete without the other cast. Ju Ji-hoon plays the role of Choi Min-woo, and you watch out for the character of Choi Mi-Yeon played by actress Yo In-young. I’ve known In-young in the drama My Love From The Star wherein she played the character of Han Yo-ra. And she is also good in portraying evil roles.
22. Remember You (Hello Monster) (2015)
I Remember You is a mind-blowing romance-thriller-comedy-mystery drama that stars Seo In-guk and Jang Na-ra. Jang’s skill in acting really showed in this drama. Truly, is one of the most bankable and award-winning actresses in this generation. Furthermore, Seo In-guk also portrays his character well in it. It is a combination of well-chosen celebrities whom I considered as talented and has the skills.
The plot is unique that never get you bored and will make you excited for the next episode. What makes this drama worth-watching is that you will always be puzzled on what will happen in the next scenes. Unlike others that you can guess, this drama will make you think and think again.
21. Healer (2014)
This drama is one of the best dramas in 2014-2015 and most recommended by K-drama lovers. I know that you are familiar Ji Chang-Wook as he stars in Empress Ki. Honestly, EK is also a recommended drama if you want to know the other side of Jang-wook. Also, if you like historical dramas, then this is for you.
On the other hand, Park Min Young plays the counterpart of Chang-Wook. I don’t have any doubt on Park’s acting since she is good especially on her latest drama A New Leaf. Although it didn't receive high ratings, it is one of my favorite legal dramas.
Healer is an action-romance-thriller drama that would surely satisfy your hungry imaginations. This is an absolutely fantastic drama of the year that is filled with thrills in every episode. Furthermore, the chemistry between the leads is not cheesy but heart-warming that will make you believe that they might be in a real relationship.
20. Pinocchio (2014)
This was my favorite Korean-romantic comedy-drama of 2014. Simply because of the two lead stars and how their characters communicate with their fans. I'm not biased if that's what you are thinking, but I really like how PSH and LJS acted on this drama. You might say that PSH characters in drama's never changed, but for me, it's not the issue. I think the question should be, did PSH acting on this drama is good or very good?
What about the story? Some might say that it's cliche, but for me it's new, and I should support this two lead stars. I support them not just because I am a fan but because I can see that the two of them had improved in acting. After all, some k-pop fans consider the cast as the main factor of watching a Korean drama.
19. Birth of a Beauty (2014)
Should I tell you that I'm also a fan of Han Ye-seul? Yes, I've been a fan since the first time I've watched her in the drama Myung Wol The Spy with Eric Mun. I even downloaded the soundtracks of that drama. Her acting is good, and she's beautiful.
Birth of a Beauty is another drama of Lee Sang-wook and Han Ye-seul. And of us are still doubtful whether to do things just like Ye-seul's character did. Well, plastic surgery is still and issue in our country (Philippines). What will you love in this drama? I guess, it's about the beauty of Han Ye-seul. And how plastic surgery helps her to find true love instead of the revenge that she is planning together with Lee Sang-wook.
18. Discovery of Love (2014)
To be honest, before watching the full drama online I first watched its trailer. Though I'm a fan of Eric Mun (he is my crush, and I always say to my friends that one day I'm gonna marry him) I first searched for the trailer of this drama. Because we all know that the trailer is the evidence whether this drama will be a good one or an epic fail.
My first reaction was "Oh, who's that girl? I don't know her, and this is the first time I see her on dramas." Yeah, that was my first reaction. Then, I realized that she is one of the leads of this drama. After watching the trailer, I ask myself, "what's the reason I watched the trailer? Do I enjoy this trailer?" I never asked myself of how the actors and actresses acted on this drama.
The next day, I type this drama on a website, and after three days I'm done. What can I say about this drama? Well, it's good. It's the right drama for those who happened to met their ex again after their breakup. And I guess, if you want some signs whether your ex is the one for you then you should watch this drama.
17. The Greatest Marriage (2014)
I'm not that familiar with the cast, but I like the story itself. It's the first time that I never considered whether the cast is very popular or not because after watching the trailer it made me want more.
Why did I decide to watch this? Because of how the lead star handles her pregnancy. And I was also thinking about the contract between Jo Eun Cha And Gi Young that saying Gi Young has to be his wife if he lost in the election. It's an interesting part of this drama. How come he come up with this kind of idea? And what's really great about marriage?
16. My Secret Hotel (2014)
Its the third time I watched how Yo In-na acts in Korean dramas. The first one, to mention was when she was cast in the lead role of the drama Queen Inhyun's Man and the second time was in the drama My Love From The Star. Though I'm not a fan of her's, I watched Secret Hotel is because of its story.
I've mentioned before that I love romantic-comedy drama plus the suspense it has. It's not just about love story but a mystery that the audience is trying to solve. Yes, some of us are guessing who the killer is? Is it true? How did it happen? What's his/her purpose? How will the director and the writer end this story? Will it be the same as Wild Romance ending? Or it will be different from other dramas? What about the actors?
Regarding Namgoong Min acting, I can see that there's an improvement compared to the last time I saw him in a drama. That was during, Unemployed Romance days. And I am very surprise of Jin Yi-han, I watched him before in Master's Sun and A New Leaf. And yes, he has the potential to become the next best actor.
15. Emergency Couple (2014)
For my many years of being a drama addict, this is really my first time I enjoyed watching a medical drama. Emergency Couple does not focus on the characters life drama but on how each character face different problems while on the hospital. So why is it entitled as Emergency Couple?
Emergency Couple is about a divorced couple Oh Jin Hee and Oh Chang Min who met again and worked as an intern in one hospital. What makes it different from other Korean dramas is that how the story started and ended.
Yes, it started when a medical school student, Oh Chang Min and dietician student Oh Jin Hee fall in love and marry despite Oh Chang Min strong family opposition. Chang Min comes from a family of good doctors that they think marrying Oh Jin Hee is not good for him, after their marriage, his family cut ties with him and stop supporting him. He then decided to give up his dream as a doctor and works as a pharmaceutical salesman. Just like any other couple, after a year of marriage, the two began to fight constantly and ended their relationship.
Chang Min returned to his family and decided to study again to pursue his dream, while Jin Hee put herself through med school. For those six years, the two didn’t have any communication. Until, they meet again in one hospital whereas they will work together as an intern in an emergency room for three months. Those three months will cover different problems inside the hospital that the couple will be facing. Problems related to their works, family and themselves.
What I like about this drama are the different medical related issues that the two will solve together. The scenes are factual and realistic. The scenes in the emergency room, the scene wherein Chang Min and Jin Hee did a throat surgery to a patient when they were locked inside the elevator. And that was the most intense part of this drama that you should really watch. This drama really teaches about life and love.

13. Plus Nine Boys (2014)
Plus Nine Boys is another Korean drama that you will surely enjoy watching. It is a romantic comedy about four males who each confront different challenges in love and work at the cusp of a new decade in their lives.
The first main character is Gu Kwang-soo who is 39 years old and once the brilliant production director of the nation’s top live music program. But his fall from grace occurs when members of an indie band he'd cast drop their pants onstage and flash the entire country during a live broadcast (based on a real-life incident on MBC in 2005). He loses his position and gets shunted to another program, spending the rest of his professional life in obscurity. He is desperate to get married, but his workaholic ways leave him little time to date. He has three nephews, Kang Jin-gu, Kang Min-gu, and Kang Dong-gu, who are sons of his superstitious older sister.
Kang Jin-gu is 29 years old, tour planner for a large vacation travel agency, and he's self-assured, good at his job, and popular with women. But he starts having to re-evaluate his whole future when he falls into a one-sided love for the first time in his life.
Kang Min-gu is 19 years old, hot-tempered high school senior and judo athlete. Min-gu dreams of going to his dream college on a judo scholarship, which means giving his all to win a gold medal in his competitive matches. But an upset stomach during a semi-finals match causes him to lose and poop in his pants, and after that embarrassing episode, his judo ranking drops.
Kang Dong-gu is nine years old. He is a child who got famous doing food commercials because of his healthy appetite. Dong-gu suddenly feels threatened when during a movie audition, he loses the role to a new rival child actor named Do Min-joon. He soon finds himself in a career slump, with the other stage parents whispering that he's growing less cute as he gets older.
So far, the kids have the cutest love story. Maybe because it is really cute, seeing these kids in a drama and dating. But then, of course, it's just puppy love.

11. Marriage Not Dating (2014)
This drama is about a wealthy plastic surgeon Gong Ki-tae has no interest in getting married; while Joo Jang-mi is a woman who wants nothing more than to be married. Ki-tae, in an effort to get his parents off his back about the constant string of blind dates and marriage prospects, purposely brings Jang-mi home to meet his parents posing as his girlfriend, certain that they'll never approve of her What happens to the lead characters of the drama is that they enter into a contractual relationship so that Ki-tae can bide his time in singledom.
The first time I watched episode 1 of this drama made me think of Full House. Though the two dramas have different plots but they were the same in entering a contract relationship. Maybe the story is very cliché, but the first episode is really different from other dramas that I’ve watched. For a fan like me, I see that there is a "bang" in the first episode.

10. I Need Romance 3 (2014)
This drama is about Shin Joo-yeon is a 33-year-old fashion marketing director at a home shopping channel company. She's developed a tough, prickly outer shell in order to succeed in the workplace, and has almost given up on the idea of true love after countless failures in the relationship department. She becomes involved in a love triangle with two very different men.
And Joo Wan is a 26-year-old songwriter and carefree spirit who returns to Korea after seventeen years living abroad. Up until the age of 9, he was practically raised by his mom's friend and her daughter, Shin Joo-yeon.
Another character is Kang Tae-yoon is Joo-yeon's senior colleague and mentor, a workaholic perfectionist who does whatever it takes to meet his goals. He's smooth and refined, but inwardly he doesn't really believe in love after getting his heart broken by his last girlfriend.
The reason why I include this drama on my list because I'm a fan of Kim So-Yeon since I saw her in the drama All About Eve and Prosecutor Princess. Well, of course, a fan will always support his/her idols. Teasers of this drama will make you decide whether to watch it or not. After all, if you like romance and comedy at the same time, then you should include this drama on your list.

9. Witch Romance (2014)
Okay, here we go. Number 4 on my list is Witch's Romance. I know not all of you here will agree on me that's why there is a poll below for you to support what drama you like. Actually, I am not familiar with any of the casts. But when I watch the teaser video of this drama, it made me think again to watch the whole drama. I like romance, I like comedy, and this drama has it all.
The story is all about Ban Ji-yeon is a 39-year-old investigative news reporter at Troublemaker. Her job is the most important thing in Ji-yeon's life, and she's so passionate about it that colleagues call her a "witch" behind her back. Ji-yeon focuses all her energy on work because she stopped believing in love after her last boyfriend, 41-year-old war photographer Noh Shi-hoon disappeared before their wedding day.
And Yoon Dong-ha is a 25-year-old guy who runs a small errand center with his friend. Their store will do pretty much anything for a customer, including dressing as Santa Claus, or providing security for an idol star. Dong-ha seems happy-go-lucky, but he hides a secret sorrow, having lost his girlfriend to a fatal heart problem. Since her death, he's lost all his ambition and drive, with his career plans sidelined.
After watching this drama, all I can say is that I never waste my time. 3. Flower Boys Next Door (2013)
Flower Boys Next Door is based on the webtoon by Yoo Hyun-sook titled "I Steal Peeks At Him Everyday."This drama is about the story of Go Dok-mi (Park Shin Hye). A modern Rapunzel, she has locked herself up in her "tower" to hide from the world and a guy named Enrique (Yoon Shi-yoon) who at the age 17, developed a wildly successful video game.
Go Dok-mi is a shy, frugal freelance copy editor who, for a yet-to-be-revealed reason, refuses to leave her apartment or interact with people as much as possible. Every day, she anonymously receives a carton of milk with a post-it attached. Every day, using a pair of yellow binoculars, she steals peeks at her neighbor across the street, Han Tae-joon, as he goes through his daily morning routine.
The last time she was outside, in a park on an autumn day, she had fallen in love with Tae-joon at first sight, following him and watching as he picked up a puppy in a box and took it home. When she looked out her window and saw him living in the apartment opposite hers, she thought of it as fate.
Webtoon artist Oh Jin-rak lives in the same apartment building as Dok-mi. He and his drawing partner Oh Dong-hoon have just finished their latest webtoon "Zombie Soccer," but it wasn't picked up because it supposedly plagiarized a video game by Enrique Geum. Jin-rak pitches a new story to persuade his editor Kim Seul-gi: the daily life of this one girl trapped in her apartment, and how her next-door neighbor draws her out into the world... and it'll be called "Flower Boy Next Door."
Enrique Geum arrives in Seoul from Spain, his reason for coming is "cupid's arrow." Though he's in love with his best friend Yoon Seo-young, she has feelings instead for his older cousin, Han Tae-joon, so he intends to play cupid for the two.
When Enrique comes to stay at Tae-joon's apartment, he catches Dok-mi in the act. That same day, a new neighbor Watanabe Ryu moves into the apartment across to Dok-mi's (Jin-rak lives next door). And with all these new men suddenly entering her life, Dok-mi's solitary and orderly world is turned upside down.
2. 7th Grade Civil Servant (2013)
7th Grade Civil Servant is an MBC spy romantic comedy series, starring Choi Kang Hee and Joo Won as rookie spies who are trained together, and later become NIS agents who must hide their real identities from each other even as they fall in love, and it is a remake of the 2009 film My Girlfriend Is an Agent.
Love and espionage collide in this drama of the National Intelligence Service's rookie agents. Han Gil-ro (Joo Won) realizes his dream of becoming an international man of mystery, after a childhood spent pouring over James Bond films. Kim Seo-won (Choi Kang-hee) spices things up as a goofy, yet determined agent, but it's not all 007 glamor. Both Gil-ro and Seo-won must learn what it takes to uphold their sworn duty, even at the sacrifice of their happiness—and lives.
Choi Kang-hee is an amateur in rom-com action-drama and movies. Before this, she was cast in the drama "Protect The Boss" and the movie "Petty Romance." And there is no doubt; she's good in comedy. While Joo Won, I wasn't that familiar with him. I seldom watch his drama, "King of Baking, Kim Takgu" but then I realized that I should try to watch its full episode. Well, his one of the best antagonist and a protagonist at the same time.
