Blood, lust, sex, violence and tons of high-voltage drama . . . The Vampire Dairies on the CW has everything you want in a show about vampires.

People die and come back as vampires. Then they die again, become ghosts, and are then revived as humans.

There is too much going on to explain in words. Those who watch the show love all the mayhem and twists that are frequently thrown at them. Some people hate it, while others follow it religiously. Well, we are not here to debate it. If you're here, it’s obvious that you are looking for some shows like The Vampire Dairies.

Without any further ado, let’s take a look at some shows that are more than just filler until the next season of TVD begins —

The Originals

A show on the same network with almost the same premise. Hell yeah!

The Originals tells the story of the original vampire siblings – the first of their kind. It answers a lot of questions too: how did vampires come to be? How come they can’t go in the sun like normal human beings?

This show answers it all, narrating the origins of the very first vampires. Though it started as a spin-off of The Vampire Dairies, this show has evolved into a must-watch drama. It takes a little time to pick up, but once it does, it’s a roller-coaster ride.

There is no reason for you to not put it in your ‘to watch’ list if you love vampire TV shows.

True Blood

A great show from HBO

Didn’t people say that this show wasn't worth watching? And you probably believed them. Granted, the plot doesn’t make sense after the first two seasons, but that doesn’t make it any less worthy.

After all, there is a reason it lasted for 7 whole seasons. If you love vampire shows, you definitely need to give True Blood a shot. The gore, betrayal, romance, wolves, mythical creatures, vampires and some intriguing drama cements this show as one of the best supernatural dramas to ever air on HBO.

Another great show from the CW

10 seasons and this show is still going strong! That says a lot about it. Simply put, it’s so damn good and addicting. Once you watch the first couple of episodes, you’ll want to burn through all 10 seasons.

You can skip some seasons if you want to, but then you won’t get to experience all the awesome bits of the story of two brothers who fight all kinds of evil.

It only gets weirder as the show progresses. From demons, ghosts, and vampires to gods that roam around – they have fought them all, and there are more lurking around.

You don’t want to miss out on their awesome journey!

Teen Wolf

A teen boy gets bitten by a werewolf and then his athletic abilities sort of turn around as he gets faster and better than ever. With these powers, though, there are some problems he needs to tackle. But will it be too late before he learns to disguise himself?

You’d be forgiven for thinking that this show is all about teens. While it’s true that the main focus is on teens, the show is about much more than that. The first season isn’t that good, but thankfully, things pick up from the second season as more characters are introduced.

We begin to learn that werewolves are not the only supernatural creatures roaming around the city. The plot only gets more complex and intriguing from there.

The Secret Circle

One of the most underrated shows

It’s a shame that this show lasted for only 2 seasons because it was great. Nevertheless, there are two whole quality seasons for you to burn through if you love vamp TV.

Don’t judge it before you watch this show. Just because there are a lot of teens, it doesn’t have to be mediocre. In fact, any adult who is into the supernatural genre will love it.

It’s dark, compelling and filled with totally unexpected plot twists. It is a masterpiece that must be brought back from the dead!

Being Human

A vampire, a werewolf, and a ghost living in the same house? It can’t get boring! They try to live a normal life despite being non-humans, but things always go haywire.

Everyday in their lives is a new adventure as they find it harder to live with each other than they thought. With only 5 seasons, it shouldn’t take a lot of time to watch this show.

You have the choice to go with the original version or the remake. Although the UK version is great, I prefer the US one. It’s all up to you. Give both versions a go for first few episodes and see what you like.

Buffy: The Vampire Slayer

A vampire classic

Its misguided title put aside, Buffy: The Vampire Slayer is an incredible show. What began as a mid-season replacement soon become a hit show, securing a huge fan base and merchandising.

The plot revolves around a girl who is destined to slay demons and vampires, battling alone and relieving the world of evil creatures. Surprisingly, fighting vampires is only a small part of what this show is about.

It chronicles a young girl’s journey as she deals with her personal problems and identity crisis while she also finds time to slay monsters. With some daring and intriguing plot lines and some terrific character development, this show is definitely one of the best vampire serials.

If you haven’t watched this show yet, you can buy the DVD on Amazon.

I strongly recommend this show to everyone who loves mystery shows like TVP and Lost where things are revealed pretty slowly. It can be overwhelming for you if you are skipping episodes. You won’t comprehend a single thing. I strongly suggest you to watch it from the very beginning.

Those who complain about it just don’t get this show. It’s similar to Lost where you had to interpret various scenes to make sense of it. Give the first couple of episodes a shot on Netflix and see if you like it.

A great spin-off TV show

I believe that this show is pretty underrated, mainly because it’s a spin-off of Buffy: The Vampire Slayer. Don’t be mistaken though. This show completely blows of the doors off Buffy. While it’s not as cutesy as its predecessor, it manages to have a wry sense of humor even in the darkest moments.

From the cast, to the plot to the character development, everything was top-notch. It was great to see the character Angel change throughout the show. The flashbacks revealed how evil he was in the past, bringing nothing but torture, pain and death to people when he didn’t have a soul. Actor David Boreanez, who played the role, perfectly depicted a vampire’s path to redemption.

The biggest criticism this show received was that since it’s a spin off of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, it can’t be good. Give it a chance and see for yourself.

I have to say, quite a few of these were spot on for shows I like in addition to TVD (especially Fringe, Being Human, etc.)! If anyone's looking for more, I would also recommend Haven, Hemlock Grove (if you're into really creepy stuff), The 100, and more I can't think of right now ;)

Really excellent reviews. I think that Buffy was the best of the ones I have seen, followed by Angel and then True Blood. I want to check out The Secret Circle.

Secret circle was AMAZING and pissed off they canceled it, for HIDDEN GEMS TRY Merlin!!! ROSWELL, KYLE XY , THEN WATCH SMALLBILLE, the 4400 is really good, buffy is one of my favs ...same with true blood and the origionals and the 100, Witches of East END ... teen wolf is amazing the most twist like vampire diaries they based their characters from Buffy too... I really like green arrow...I'm getting iffy with all the rest of comic book shows...smallville and the green arrow ..they don't make em as good as they used to ...I like watching character beings created and evolving as you grow and learn with them in a soap opera fashion with well thought out plots that are like a novelist book series that goes on forever but never wavers in quality creating the most intricate worlds and characters with magic making all things possible ( with rules and unpredictable loop holes )
