News about the return of Dancing with the Stars was revealed on Good Morning America on Thursday, July 14, 2022. Tyra Banks is returning for her third season of being a host and one of the executive producers.

For the 31st season, Banks will be joined by a co-host in the person of Alfonso Ribeiro who is no stranger to the show. Officials have decided that two hosts will be better than only one. Previously, Dancing with the Stars had two co-hosts.

About "Dancing with the Stars" Season 31

Viewers learned back on Friday, April 8, 2022 that Dancing with the Stars will no longer be aired on the ABC network as it has been for 30 seasons. Viewers will be able to see it exclusively on Disney+ in the United States and Canada. The popular reality show will be the very first live series to air on that streaming service.

Many longtime viewers of Dancing with the Stars are very disappointed about that major change. That's because most people cannot get the streaming service without having to pay a big price for it. Officials think it is good for the show to move to a streaming service. Besides, Monday Night Football is taking the time slot that Dancing with the Stars always had.

The new season of Dancing with the Stars will be streamed in the fall, but the date has not been announced yet. The list of contestants will be revealed on ABC's Good Morning America on September 8, 2022. The four regular judges will return: Head Judge Len Goodman, Carrie Ann Inaba, Bruno Tonioli, and Derek Hough.

Some of the favorite professional dancers might not return. Even though nothing is official, Val Chmerkovskiy suggested in an interview with Entertainment Tonight that Season 30 might have been his last.

Cheryl Burke has been on the show since Season 2 and has won the championship twice. She told Tamron Hall that at 37 years old, arthritis has definitely taken a physical toll on her. Witney Carson might not be there to see Alfonso, who she helped win the trophy in 2014. She said during a podcast that she is thinking about having another baby.

About Tyra Banks

Fans of the show wondered if Banks would return because she has received a long list of negative comments when she first began hosting two seasons ago. She responded to the criticisms on TikTok at the beginning of her tenure.

She said:

"Tonight I hosted the second episode of Dancing With the Stars and yeah, it wasn't perfect. Yeah, I had a lot of fun, but I messed up. I said the wrong words, but I kept going."

Without seeing the pair together in action, it is certain that Tyra will not be as talkative as she has been. That's because she will have to leave time for Alfonso to share.

About Alfonso Ribeiro

Alfonso Ribeiro is no stranger to the ballroom. In fact, he has a long history with Dancing with the Stars. In 2014, he won the Mirrorball trophy as a celebrity competitor along with professional dance partner Witney Carson back in Season 19. He appeared as a guest judge in Season 21. In addition to those events, Alfonso filled in for longtime host Tom Bergeron for one episode later that same season. This will be the second time Ribeiro joins a show previously hosted by Bergeron after he took over hosting duties of America’s Funniest Home Videos when Bergeron left the show in 2015. The 50-year-old talented co-host currently hosts Catch 21 on the Game Show Network.

After learning that he would be a co-host on the show, Ribeiro said, he is super excited. He mentions how grateful he is to be back with the great crew, dancers, and friends. He indicated that he and Tyra have been friends since junior high school. The 48-year-old supermodel and television personality has worked with Alfonso before. She briefly appeared with him on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air when she was 19 years old. She appeared in seven episodes during the show’s fourth season.

Ribeiro is a talented and energetic host. He will definitely be fun to watch. Hopefully, fans will get a chance to see him display some of his dance moves. Some people have commented that they are looking forward to seeing Alfonso host along with Tyra.
