The Name of Prince Harry’s Tell-All Memoir Is Raising a Few Eyebrows

He’s definitely making a statement.

It's so hard to look away from the drama with the royal family. Especially because there seems to be something new that happens every single day. But now people are really buzzing about the title of Prince Harry's new memoir . And once you see what it is, we're sure you'll have plenty to talk about yourself.

There has been talk of Harry writing an "explosive" new memoir for a while now, but on Friday, October 28, both the cover and the title were revealed: "Spare."

The reference is apparently to the well-known refrain amongst the royal family. The first child is of course the "heir" to the throne, while the second born is often thought of as the insurance policy incase the worst happens. I.e., "the heir and the spare," as Vogue reports.

According to the Metro, Harry's publishers Penguin Random House call the novel an account told with "raw, unflinching honesty."

The publishers continued that the book is fill with "insight, revelation, self-examination, and hard-won wisdom about the eternal power of love over grief."

Spare takes readers immediately back to one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow—and horror,” Vogue reports the press release states. “As Diana, Princess of Wales, was laid to rest, billions wondered what the princes must be thinking and feeling—and how their lives would play out from that point on.”

They say the novel is “a landmark publication full of insight, revelation, self-examination, and hard-won wisdom about the eternal power of love over grief.”

Whew, okay. So read with a box of tissues nearby, got it. And while we will certainly be reading, people in the comments section of Twitter had a more mixed response to the news.

"Judging by the title it's gonna be a bitter account of being the second son of the future king who is now king," wrote @Blaizeria. "An heir and a spare...ouch. Imagine growing up knowing your position in the family was as a backup," @SheNerdsOut added. "There better be bombshells .. & drama. Why do I get the feeling it’s just going to be about how he made himself a better person? Nobody wants to read that!" @sarahjoy88 chimed in.

Okay, so maybe we're also hoping for just a bit of drama. But judging by that title, Harry definitely has us hooked. "Spare" is set to be released on January 10, 2023.
