In news that will leave you praying for time travel, actor Henry Cavill has responded to "Twilight" author Stephanie Meyers calling him the "perfect" Edward Cullen. In fact, before the movies were shot, Cavill was on the top of Meyer's casting wishlist. And trust us when we say that she wasn't the only one who was disappointed that Cavill was never a Cullen.
It all went down during an interview Cavill did with the "Happy Sad Confused" podcast. And of course the news traveled to Twitter, where people just had to talk about it.
"In an alternate timeline, Henry Cavill is everyone’s fave emo vampire," a tweet from the @BritishGQ account joked. God, we wish...
According to Variety, Meyers said that Cavill was the best man for the role on her blog, written before the movie went into production. By the time Summit Entertainment optioned her novel in July 2017, Cavill was 24 years old and was too old to be able to play a teenager.
"The most disappointing thing for me is losing my perfect Edward. Henry Cavill is now 24 years old. Let us have a moment of quiet in which to mourn…” she explained online. Stephanie, we're right there with ya'.
People on Twitter were just as bummed as we were. "So you’re telling me Henry Cavill could’ve been in Twilight and made me watch the movie for more than comedy? I could’ve had THE HENRY CAVILL," @Xbelled13 exclaimed. "If Henry Cavill had been cast as Edward I promise anyone the way I would’ve been OBSESSED with Twilight would be concerning," @sxmmrr agreed. "Omg him in Twilight? I would have watched all of them," @valgomendez wrote.
Cavill himself told podcast host Josh Horowitz that he doesn't feel any resentment towards Robert Pattinson, who ultimately won the role.
“Not at all because I didn’t know about the movie,” he explained. “I didn’t know about them wanting to cast me and the internet wasn’t quite the tool that it is now and so I only found out afterwards," he added.
"I was like, ‘Oh okay, that would have been cool,'” he said.
Yep, very, very, cool indeed.
