An Old Clip of Michael J. Fox’s Monologue in “Family Ties” Has Resurfaced and It’s Hitting Folks Right In the Feels.

Whether you are a believer, this is a beautiful moment of TV.

We know some (very wrong) people still think that TV is frivolous. But a clip of a classic '80s sitcom that's gone viral on TikTok will absolutely prove them wrong It comes from an old episode of Family Ties — and people online agree that Michael J. Fox's monologue still gives them the chills.

The topic is pretty heavy — Fox's character Alex P. Keaton was grappling with his belief in God. This is a weighty idea for anyone, but seeing as how Alex just lost his friend in a car accident, we can imagine the whole topic was so confusing.

"Do you believe in God, Alex?" a voice asks him from behind the camera.

"That's what this all comes down to, right?" he answers. "That's what I'm trying to figure out here. Because if there is a God and then somehow this would all make sense. I mean there's gotta be a reason. Some master in which Greg's dying and my living makes sense."

"What do you think?" the voice asks.

"The analytical side of me says no. On a straight, cost efficiency basis, you can't prove it," he answered. "There's no annual report. There's no picture with the board of directors — I mean recent ones. And there's a lot of things that just cannot be accounted for."

"But then there are these miraculous things," he continued, before arguing why in fact God could be real. The whole clip is just so touching. And even now, 35 years later, the conversation still hits.

"This is one of my favorite episodes. Michael J Fox knocked it out of the park," wrote one person in the comments section. "Man I miss wholesome family tv shows," someone else wrote. "I actually gasped. This is THE scene. Oh it’s been in my heart since I first saw it in 87," chimed in a third commenter.

When something is good it'll stand the test of time. So we know people will definitely be talking about this in another 35 years.
