Christina Applegate Makes First Appearance Since MS Diagnoses While Receiving Her Star at the Hollywood Walk of Fame

The star was emotional at receiving the honor.

Tuesday was an emotional day for Christina Applegate. The actress received her very own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, no small feat for any actor. But the day was tinged with sadness too. Applegate hasn't been seen publicly since announcing that she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS) back in the summer of 2021. Although she showed real strength while attending the ceremony on November 14.

Applegate marked the occasion with a pitch-perfect speech.

"I can't stand for too long, so I'm going to thank people that I really need to thank," she said in the clip that was later shared by The Today Show. "The most important person in this world is my daughter. You are so much more, you are so much more than even you know," she added through tears.

"You are so beautiful, and kind, and loving, and smart, and interesting. And I am blessed every day that I get to wake up and take you to school. You are my everything. Thank you for standing beside me through all of this — oh by the way I have a disease," she joked. "Did you not notice? I'm not even wearing shoes."

It was true. Applegate showed up to the ceremony shoeless. A move which she later explained on her Twitter page.

"Barefoot. For some with MS the feeling of shoes may hurt or make us feel off balance. So today I was me. Barefoot," she wrote on November 15.

The moment touched so many people online. "Christina you are so beautiful with an amazing soul. Been admiring you for many years, don’t even want to think how many hahaha. Thank you for sharing your courage and baring yourself to the world. No matter what you rise and fly!" wrote one person on Instagram. "She is so funny and gracious. Her speech although funny and touching let you see that her disease is no ‘walk’ in the park. It is difficult. Christina Applegate has amazing strength. I wish and pray for a cure," another person agreed. "I just found out I have MS. Thank you for being so open about it," a third commenter shared.

And it seems like Applegate really appreciated all the support.

"It happened," she wrote on Twitter. "Thank you everyone. Hollywood chamber of commerce. And ya know… everyone."
