Todd and Julie Chrisley are Sentenced to Jail Time Despite Son Grayson's Recent Car Accident

This family has a lot going on.

Bad news for fans of the reality show, Chrisley Knows Best. Todd and Julie Chrisley have been sentenced to time in prison, after pleading guilty on federal charges of fraud. The couple also pleaded guilty to lying to tax officials about their personal wealth.

According to NBC News, Todd Chrisley was sentenced to 12 years in prison, while his wife Julie has been sentenced to seven years during their hearing on Monday, November 21. This comes after the reality pair was found guilty to fraud, tax evasion, and conspiracy to defraud the United States back in June. As well as a delayed sentencing hearing that was meant to take place in October. But was pushed after the couple's lawyer claimed a witness "lied" while on the stand, People reports. However, now it appears that their time was due.

"Breaking news. The Chrisleys. Their sentencing is today," TikTok creator @thatguypope said in a video on his page from before the hearing. "It's already been put off once, but will it be continued again? Todd. Julie. I'm hoping the best for you, I know there's some things that people don't know yet," he added. But unfortunately in this case, things didn't go their way.

NBC News reports even more details of the case. Mainly that the Chrisleys are believed to have defrauded several banks across the Atlanta area by taking out more than $30 million in fraudulent loans over several years. They were accused of using the production company behind their show to hide their income from the IRS and filling out false documents to obtain the loans from banks. Incredulously, the couple would then turn around and flaunt their pricy lifestyle on their TV show.

The Chrisleys' accountant was also found guilty of tax fraud for filing false corporate tax returns on their behalf. Julie Chrisley was also found guilty of wire fraud and obstruction of justice.

The hearing also comes on the heels of a tragic incident involving their 16-year-old son Grayson, who was in a car crash in Nashville, Tennessee on November 21, People reports. Police later told the news outlet that at the scene Grayson was "unable to recall anything from the accident, possibly due to a head injury." He was then taken to the hospital," CBS News adds. His current condition is unknown.

People on TikTok had mixed feelings about the latest update in the Chrisley's saga. "They have no remorse and still blame every one else, they were greedy and should serve time if it was me or you...jail time," wrote one person. "I love the family I hope all goes well! We all have secrets," another commenter argued. "Love the Chrisleys. Hope Grayson is okay from the accident," a third person wrote.

It's sad to see the family we've invited into our homes suffer like this, but as prosecutors noted at the hearing, it appears these two were far from innocent.

“The Chrisleys have built an empire based on the lie that their wealth came from dedication and hard work," NBC News reports they said. "The jury’s unanimous verdict sets the record straight: Todd and Julie Chrisley are career swindlers who have made a living by jumping from one fraud scheme to another, lying to banks, stiffing vendors, and evading taxes at every corner.”
