10 Reasons Why Spiderman Is Better than Batman

Spiderman v Batman
Spiderman v Batman

I grew up loving Spiderman! He was the superhero that I most related to and I used to get his comic every week and devour it from cover to cover. It helped that we shared the same first name – no, not “spider”… Peter. I would read avidly of his exploits and victories, his life as a reluctant super hero and his emotional turmoil in his non-Spidey times. As a child I couldn’t quite understand why they made a TV show of Batman but not one of Spiderman. You remember the show with Adam West as Batman in a somewhat camp romp through Gotham City as "POW" and "SLAM" were emblazoned across the screen. And yet, no Spiderman TV show. It was the same with the movie genre – the first Batman movie starring Michael Keaton as the caped crusader was released in 1989, but the first Spiderman was not released until 2002. Batman always seemed to get the bigger billing and all the glory.

Well I think that Spiderman is the better super hero by far, and here are 10 reasons why…

1. He spins webs...

I don’t know about you, but having the ability to propel a web-like substance from your wrists that is strong enough to carry your own weight is pretty darn cool. This same substance is able to carry the weight of a vehicle, to entrap villains and even provided a nice romantic canopy for Spidey and his lady to lay back and gaze at the stars. Can Batman do that? Nope. He has no such superhuman creation that he can produce at will from within his own body that is capable of doing this much. I guess he could summon up some saliva, but hey, I don’t imagine it’ll get him very far.

Mary Jane Watson
Mary Jane Watson

2. He has a girlfriend...

Spiderman, or Peter Parker, as he is really known, has a real girlfriend. He is a down to earth guy with a normal life and has attracted Mary Jane Watson (MJ) by his personality, compassion and genuineness. He doesn’t need all the money and fame that Bruce Wayne (Batman) has, to be attractive to women. Money can come and go, but true personality and integrity will remain. Ladies are attracted to heroes but they want genuine ones. Peter Parker is one such man and he has a steady girlfriend in MJ. Does Batman have a steady squeeze? I think not.

Nice undies!
Nice undies!

3. He isn't wearing his underpants on the outside...

Okay, this is one for the fashion police. No one should be allowed out in public if they are wearing their underpants on the outside of their clothes. This is a basic rule I learned as a young child when my Mom taught me to dress myself. Even as a 3 year old, I didn’t get it wrong, and still we find Batman making a fashion faux pas in this area. The Batman TV show did nothing to increase the “Caped Crusader’s” street cred when people across the world saw him dressed that way. He looked decidedly less than manly, shall we say? Spiderman on the other hand, although also dressed in a tight fitting outfit, remembered the golden rule of clothing etiquette – no one wants to see your undies! I personally blame Batman with the current trend amongst young men to have their jeans hanging down so low that their underpants are showing. They all want to secretly be like Batman! People, look to a better role model in Spiderman. Red and blue are tastefully combined to create a winning ensemble.

4. He can kiss upside down...

A superhero must have, within his arsenal of tricks, many tools. From my recollection Spiderman is the first one I have ever seen to employ the upside down kiss technique. In fact I don’t recall Batman actually kissing anyone (back to the my 2nd point about the no girlfriend). Spidey is extremely competent at hanging upside down in a rain soaked back alley, suspending himself at exactly the right height to reach his lips to those of MJ. It was a memorable scene and one that wins over MJ’s heart and those of ladies everywhere. Batman, sorry buddy, you just don’t got it!

5. He isn't afraid of spiders...or bats!

The fear of spiders is consistently in the top two phobias for people across the globe. Many a grown man has been seen to run crying when an arachnid the size of a dime appears in the vicinity. Spiderman does not share this irrational fear of these loveable creepy crawlies. Instead he embraces the skills, power and cunning of these tiny creatures. Nor is he afraid of bats like Batman is. What is the point in naming your self Bat-man when you are afraid of your own name? Spider-man gets it right. Stand up for something you love, not something that scares you. I bet you could put Spiderman in a room of tarantulas and he’d be snoozing with furry octopeds crawling all over him. Put Batman in a room with bats and he’d be sniveling in the corner like a baby!

Are they holding hands?
Are they holding hands?

6. He doesn't need a sidekick...

The Lone Ranger had Tonto, Butch Cassidy had the Sundance Kid, Starsky had Hutch, Mork had Mindy, Thelma had Louise, and Spiderman had… That’s right, Spiderman had nobody to hold his hand. He was all the superhero he needed to be without a right hand man or woman to pick up the slack where he dropped the ball. No matter what it took, he got the job done. What about Batman though? He also needed his sidekick Robin to help boost him when he was feeling down, to lay out the guy behind him who was about to clock him over the head with a chair (another KAPOW!), and to be the blundering rookie to make Batman look better than he really was. Spiderman needed nobody.

Master climber
Master climber

7. He can stick to a wall unaided...

The Batman TV show used to have these really cheesy scenes of Batman and Robin climbing up the side of a building, pulling themselves along with a cable that came out of a pouch on Batman’s bright yellow accessory belt. To any sane person watching it was clear that they were actually walking on a flat surface and the screen was then rotated to make it look like they were scaling this huge skyscraper in Gotham City. The result was zero credibility. Wouldn’t it have been better if they had just climbed the building with their hands just by sticking them to the brick? Obviously the reason Batman couldn’t do that was, well, because he couldn’t do that! Spiderman, on the other hand, has a supernatural ability to climb without any assistance from cables, accessories or trick photography. That is yet another reason why I'm going to "stick" with Spidey.

Very dull, dark and drab
Very dull, dark and drab

8. He is colourful, not dowdy...

Spiderman is a larger than life, stand out from the crowd sort of guy who is willing and able to wear bright colours no matter what the occasion. Batman on the other hand sticks with the dark, drab and dowdy tones. Predominantly he wears black, which, although slimming, does not allow freedom of expression and bring joy to people. Traditionally black is associated with sin, darkness and evil – none of which are character traits you would want to see on a superhero’s resume now is it? Spiderman brightens your day when you see him in his red and blue. Batman depresses you. He even has taken on the title of ”Dark Knight” which is hardly a good role model for young children. Spiderman is not narrow minded though, because in the movie Spiderman 3, he does try to relate to Batman by donning a black Spidey-suit but the results are disastrous and so he reverts back to the tried and true red and blue. Red and blue is the new black!

9. His real name isn't two first names...

As mentioned, Spiderman’s real name is Peter Parker. Batman’s real name is Bruce Wayne. Notice that Batman uses two names that are traditionally first names? Spiderman instead goes with the more traditional first name then surname set up so that he is able to relate to his followers better. The use of two first names by Batman shows a definite lack of creativity and that would be a lesser quality for a super hero. Then there is Spiderman’s name itself – Peter Parker. Just say it and it rolls off the tongue so nicely. The two letter P’s add punctuation, power and purpose to the name. They speak of a well-rounded personality. Bruce Wayne on the other hand has no pizzazz to it and frankly is very lame, which almost rhymes with Wayne.

I can see you George...
I can see you George...

10. He's never been played by George Clooney...

The three Spiderman movies to date have all had the role of Peter Parker/Spiderman played by the excellent Tobey Maguire. His portrayal of Spidey was continually both compelling and believable. Viewers were able to relate to the human frailty seen in his family life and relationships, but also to the confidence and community mindedness of his alter ego. On the other hand, on the big screen Batman has been played by Michel Keaton (twice), Val Kilmer, Christian Bale (3 times, including The Dark Knight Rises in 2012), and also George Clooney. Why so many actors you may ask? The only answer can be that they, like me, have come to the all too obvious conclusion that Batman is a lesser superhero to the much greater, much braver, much more beloved Spiderman.

So there you have it...

The conclusion is easy for all to see. My 10 irrefutable reasons why Spiderman is better than Batman. The evidence speaks for itself.

This summer on July 3rd 2012, is the release of “The Amazing Spiderman”. The legend of Spiderman will continue as we get a look at Peter Parker’s childhood and teenage years and grow to appreciate the make up of the man who is your friendly neighbourhood Spiderman.

Then there's Superman - check out how Spiderman compares to Superman here:

Both are fantasy characters, and believe me I have never watched them, even in movies, and only I have heard of them. You have provided here nice comparison between these two characters, thanks for sharing:)

@Sam -agreed, in rare cases Parker might be used as a first name, but being rare would cause that person so named to stand out from the regular "Joe's", "Bill's", "BRUCE's" and "WAYNE's" and rise above to be a leader, champion and defender of earth!

Nice hub, but Peter Parker hasn't always been with Mary-Jane, for a long time in the comics he dated a girl called Gwen Stacy!

Also, Batman still has the best movies, cartoons and videogames of the two ;)

@charlesxavier04 - thanks for taking time to visit and read my hub.

You are, of course, completely entitled to your opinion with regards to which superhero is better, albeit you are completely wrong... Lol.

davyjones 4 years ago

i think that only one or two of those reasons are actually proper reasons...

but they are both different heroes with different challenges and motivation. i personally prefer batman because he doesn't need any powers to beat up bad guys, he earned his place. also spider sense is a stupid idea if you ask me....spiders don't have any sense like that. same with web swinging. and reflexes. and strength.

@davyjones - your visit is appreciated. Of course this was written a little "tongue in cheek" and your opinion is noted. The whole "underpants on the outside" thing is enough for any sane person to be disturbed by Batman though really... :-)

1. He could only spin webs from his body in the recent movie series. In the comics AND the movie coming up, Parker had to build the iconic web-shooters. So, just like Batman's grappling hook, Spider-Man needed tp build a contraption to get around.

2.Batman has had many girlfriends. Very attractive ones. He has also had women that he has loved, only they either die or turn out to be a villain. And don't say Spider-Man's girls don't die, look at Gwen Stacy, his first love.

3. I do agree the underpants were pretty silly, but they have been eliminated from his design in the new 52.

4. Batman could easily kiss upside down. He's hanging upside down all the time. It's even a move in the Arkham games. But Bruce instills fear when in the Bat-Suit, he can't be making out with chicks for all to see.

5. So what if he has a fear of bats? He's enough of a badass that he doesn't let fear take over his life. If he did, then he would have been dead long ago with his first encounter with Scarecrow.

6. Having a sidekick not only keeps himself in check (just like how MJ or any other hero does with Spidey), but Robin is to help with the future of Gotham post-Bruce Wayne. Batman's already made an army with all the Robin's and has made sure Gotham will be safe for the rest of its existence thanks to the Robins (Maybe with the exception of Jason).

7&8. These are just ridiculous. These are just descriptions of what make Spider-Man and Batman. That's like saying "Batman's better because he has a bat on his chest."

9. I know 2 people named Parker and 0 named Wayne. Also, Bruce Wayne doesn't go with the campy alliteration name.

10. Why isn't Tobey Maguire playing Spider-Man in this next movie???

Aaron 4 years ago

Although I love Spider-man I am going to have to disagree with this article so I have posted my reasons why Batman is better than Spider-man. Every reason you gave for Spider-man being better than Batman are pretty much my reasons why Batman is better than Spider-man. lol

10 Reasons why Batman is better than Spider-Man

1. He doesn't have superpowers. He is rich and smart enough to create or have created for him, weapons to serve his every need and none of which are lethal. He has gained the ability to leap from building to building in hot pursuit and the way he did was not through a scientific accident but instead, sheer will power.

2. His love life is adult. He has had a few run ins with several women in the stories over the years and though he be dark and brooding, he never feels the need to impress, women are just drawn to him. He does it the right way, don't chase after women, let them come to you.

3. His uniform (I specifically avoided the word costume) is geared for everything he needs to do. He rules the shadows and partly it is because his uniform is dark enough. Batman is a soldier, actively fighting the war on crime. Spider-man (although I love him) is still in tights, he showed no change.

4. Kissing upside down has nothing to do with being a superhero. But if we are going into that, Batman makes kickass children (Damien and Huntress).

5. Batman learned to overcome his fear which is hard for an average man to do when he is regular flesh and blood with no advantages. He actually personified his original fear and now makes his enemies feel what he felt all those years ago (Batman Begins).

6. Batman doesn't need a sidekick, but he does feel that taking an active blow on Gotham's crime is taking those with a good heart underneath his wing. Many of young people have been father so to speak, by Batman. All of them, whether good or on the line, give credit for the things that Batman taught them in their life. Spider-man is still trying to figure out what he wants to do in his life.

7. Once again I go back to the fact that strength and willpower are what Batman needs to get the job done. To say that Spider-man is unaided is false as he was aided when he got bit by a spider. I would have liked to have seen Spider-man do anything if he didn't get bit. However, he may have proved a good source for Batman's gadgets, should Bruce Wayne feel his inventions were up to par, but then again he has Lucius Fox so...

8. Once again, Batman's suit is good for all the purposes that he needs. Hiding in the shadows would seem a bit of a challenge when advertising yourself with bright blue and red. Again, I like Spider-Man, I'm just saying.

9. Wayne can act just as easily as last name as it does a first. Bruce Wayne is a strong name and fits the man behind the mask. He is a corporate leader in the world and Bruce Wayne isn't a name one can easily forget.

10. Although he has had a bad past of movie line ups, his current films by Nolan are and considered to be the best comic book movie franchise ever. Director is great, actors are cast perfectly, and drama is intense. and Batman has never been played by Tobey McGuire, cause lets face it, George Clooney's Batman was terrible, but he as an actor is pretty amazing. I haven't heard from Tobey in a while.

@ Aaron - wow! Thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to comment on all 10 points. I guess the bottom line is what is often true for even us mere mortals - our greatest weakness is oftentimes also our greatest strength when used correctly. I am not a Batman hater (I've watched the movies too) but instead I just have a connection with Spidey.

However, I still can't help but laugh at the sight of Adam West in the TV series with his underwear on the outside of his costume...oops, sorry... uniform! Have great day!

Aaron 4 years ago

Lol work is pretty slow here, but I completely understand the love for Spidey, I always felt that connection too, but a lot of times I didn't always like who I was so that left me wondering, does Peter Parker annoy me like I annoy myself sometimes lol. But yeah I understand the love, I just had to take up for Batman seeing as how he has changed drastically from what he was long ago. But this new Spider-man does look to be pretty awesome.

And I completely agree with you on Adam West, lol. Who could ever get the image of Batman from a helicopter with a shark attached to his leg...that kind of stuff sticks with you, sort of like Emo Peter Parker dancing down the sidewalk. lol To each his own I guess. Peace out

Sorry Petenali, I was hooked by the title but personally thought this article was too opinionated to be considered a good argument that Spiderman is better. You don't touch on either Spiderman's negatives or Batman's positives to do a really tit-for-tat to show that Spiderman is better.

1. Though the web-spinning is not accurate to the comics I think it would be better if he could do that naturally. Heck, if he gets "spider-powers" why shouldn't he be able to right? But the comics say it is an invention of his so it is similar to Batman's grapplehook, and I would say it is more creative than the grapple hook.

2. They both have had girlfriends and lovers that they've loved and lost. Batman just has a weekness for bad-girls ironically.

3. Batman wears his underpants on the outside and whips his cape open like a "flasher". Spiderman wears a one-piece spandex suit. Both are quite unconventional.

4. I don't see how that is relevant to proving who is a better hero, but I'll bite. Spiderman may love being theatric, but that was a bit immature for a Hero. Batman doesn't kiss upside down because he focuses on helping people more than his own relationships.

5. I believe that Aaron's comment covers this well enough without anymore input needed on Batman's behalf. And why would Spiderman be afraid of spiders after his "mutation"?

6. No Spiderman has never had a sidekick. But would he say no if one was offered? Batman can make do without a sidekick but he doesn't socialize like a normal person, and he tries to get each sidekick to a point where they can become solo-acts.

7. This is Superpowers versus Human Capability. Spiderman can scale the side of a buidling easily, however, Batman's grapple hook would propel him to the roof much faster. Batman does climbs the side when his destination is somewhere in the middle of the building. What happened in Spiderman 2 when his web-slinging was out-of-order? Spiderman took the elevator. Batman wouldn't have.

8. Spiderman is a hero of the day. Out in the sun and easily seen. So he could have dressed like a bumble-bee; point being he could have been as colorful as he wanted. Batman couldn't be stealthy with dashes of red, green, pink, orange, and yellow on his uniform. Black and gray are most suitable for stealthy approaches which is Batman's forte.

9. Alliteration does sound better, but what does their personal name have to do with the quality of their alter-ego's heroics?

10. Batman has had 7 movies within 25 years. You can't expect the same actor to perform in each movie. Toby MaGuire did do a fantastic job portraying Spiderman. But their portrayals should not reflect on the true characters of Batman and Spiderman.

I think a poll should've been on this hub asking if Batman or Spiderman is the better hero. My vote is Batman hands down, even if there are eight hands.

petenali profile image

petenali 4 years ago from Ontario, Canada Author

Zane, excellent analysis. Totally appreciate your input. The hub was written a little tongue in cheek to be honest and I am actually both surprised and pleased by the responses I have been getting.

It appears that being just a fan is not the same as being an expert and I never professed to be the latter.

Thanks for taking time to read and respond in the detail you did.

I'm sure Batman is thankful for your vote - after all he needs all the hands he can get to compete...

I completely agree, Spiderman rules. I too grew up devouring the comic books. Batman has all the cool tech that money can buy, and he's trained his body to the point of perfection, but its still a human body. Spiderman has the relative strength of a spider, making him 10 times stronger than a human! Add in the web-slinging, the speed and agility, the spider-senses - he just kicks butt.

JMNorris profile image

Im skeptical. Im not sure that you can really compare the two "fairly" considering Spiderman is a "super hero", being that he has actual powers. Batman, however, is simply a "crime fighter". He's a rich guy with a lot of toys, no actual powers.

Anonymous 4 years ago

Who are we to conclude that spidey is better than batman or batman is better than spider man. Some people may like batman and some spidey. Everyone has their own taste even if the whole world loves spidey it doesn’t mean that batman is lame. some people they may be felt that batman is a character all about a normal human doing things which are not possible by any other fellows or by the police department so making him a superhero and still some people may felt that When it comes to quick thinking, death-defying, lightning swift, acrobatic stunts, the wall crawling wonder is truly without equal. Batman is great for some people and for others spidey. We can find a number of minus points from an ideal superhero if we hate it and we can also find a number of plus point from a worst character ever if we love it. I love spidey so much it doesn’t mean that i hate batman. Anyone like these comparisons should not be taken too personal.

While I appreciate your creativity and drawing of some really good and interesting points, Batman is still cooler than spider man. Hey bats, so now that you don't have your fancy costume, your batmobile, and your gadgets, what are you? A billionaire playboy, an escape artist, master of many forms of the deadliest martial arts, a world-renowned detective, and a philanthropist. Hey spidey, now that you don't have your superpowers, what are you? ummm, a geek with a girlfriend.

This article is so idiotic I'm pretty sure you are not that big of a spider-man fan as you claim you are because you don't know shit about either heroes. I can argue with every point of yours.

1. Just because he can spin webs from his wrists don't mean shit. And if you knew something about spider-man it's that he makes his web-shooters it doesn't just come out of his wrists. And even so Batman has a golden utility belt with gadgets that make military gadgets and web-shooters look crappy.

2. Batman/Bruce Wayne gets girls that Peter can't even dream of getting and also Bruce gets them without even trying! He is a playboy billionaire! He gets some of the most beautiful girls in the world. Peter struggles to get girls. And again to say that he is attracted to only Mary-Jane Watson shows your lack of knowledge for Spider-man. He was first attracted to Gwen Stacy.

3. Batman in the older comics wears underwear in front of his tights but it actually doesn't look that bad on him like it does on Superman. Anyway modern versions of Batman he wears Kevlar armor which is better and more functional then Spider-man's tights that he has been wearing since the character was made.

4. don't even know how to respond to this stupid point. All i can say is that Bruce Wayne probably fucks 2 hot as chicks at the same time which is better then hiding your identity and then act all confident to the girl you like.

5. Bruce Wayne being afraid of Bats makes the story more interesting. He wanted to share his fear of Bats to the criminal element that killed his parents. Thugs shit themselves before getting KO'd by the dark knight but thugs try to attack Spider-man because he isn't scary he's just a dorky kid.

6. Who gives a shit if Spider-man can stick to walls? Batman can glide and look like a bad-ass while doing so.

7. Batman doesn't need a sidekick even if he does have one. Batman rather work alone then work with someone else. And if Spider-man wanted one how will he train him? At least Batman is an experienced trained fighter who is a master in 127 forms of martial arts. He can train his sidekick. Spider-man isn't as skilled or as experienced in fighting to train someone younger.

8. *sigh* This is one of the reasons Batman is so bad-ass. He looks and does everything like a villain but he is doing good. Him being dark helps him be more stealthy so he can take out armed thugs and make the armed thugs shit themselves. Spider-man would get the shit shot out of him if he was in a room with many armed thugs because his costume is too colorful.

2. Are you serious? You are judging a character because he has 2 first names? You are beyond pathetic. Bruce Wayne is a cooler name then Peter Parker get the fuck outta here.

1. There are so many actors for Batman because Batman is a much more interesting and cooler character then Spider-man so there are more movies. Toby Maguire was a terrible Spider-man/Peter Parker. And just because they make more movies of Batman doesn't make him any less of a hero then Spider-man that just shows he's more popular then Spider-man because he's way cooler, way more bad-ass then Spider-man. And the fact that Bruce Wayne, a human being risks his life protecting his city with his bare fists make him much more braver then spider-man and much more of a hero then Spider-man. Batman is better then Spider-man. Learn something before you waste your time embarrassing yourself like this. You claim to be a spidey fan yet you barely know anything about the character.

"As a child I couldn’t quite understand why they made a TV show of Batman but not one of Spiderman." Spider-Man was a Saturday Morning cartoon show from 1967 to 1970: it's available on Netflix. lists at least ten more series. But they're not as good as the original, where the famous theme song comes from.

@amandajoyshapiro - Thanks for that info Amanda. In the UK, we only got Batman (the lame TV show) but were deprived of Spider-man. I understand that it aired in North America (I now live in Canada). You are not the first person to point that out. Thanks for reading the hub though...

This is not useful at all besides what about the fact that the spidey sense dose almost everything for him and the fact that he's stronger and faster and yes Batman did fight Superman once but, most of Batmans success were from preparation.

You obviously never seen the "Cider House Rules" or "Brothers." If you had, then you would know how great of an actor Tobey Maguire really is. Heck, I would argue with anyone that Tobey was robbed out of an Oscar victory and nomination for his role in "Brothers", as he really showed off his acting chops in that one. Go check it out, and that'll convince anyone how great he is as an actor.

Again, great hub, but I think Aaron brought up a lot of valid points. Plus Batman has the best rogues gallery than any other superhero ever created, so that gives him an extra advantage.

However, another point you could've used was that Spider-Man was more of an original idea, than Batman was. Just read my review of "The Bat" for proof, as I go over it more in detail:

Plus if that hub isn't enough to convince you, then check out this article, as it clearly proves batman is not as original as many like to believe. ;)

@The Dark Knight

Actually to be fair about your point about Peter's first love being Gwen, that's technically true, but Peter's first girlfriend in the comic books was Betty Brant if you really want to get analytical about all this.

As for Spider-Man getting shot if he was in a room with a bunch of armed thugs, you are aware that Spider-Man has super human agility, speed, and reflexes of a spider right? I don't know if your familiar with real life arachnids, but those fuckers are fast, and react quickly if you hesitate. Plus, Spider-Man has his spider-senses, so he can detect the bullets flying at him, and then dodge them at the last minute. Just saying.

As for there being more movies about batman than there are about spider-man, you are aware that spider-man was created far later than batman was, so that gives batman a clear advantage to have films made about him before spidey ever gets a chance to have one. Plus, i can imagine it's a lot easier making a movie about a superhero with no super powers than it is about one with spider-man's powers on the big screen, and make it look good. That's another factor.

By far and large, Spiderman as a hero has always been considered as one of the good role models to mankind...and like he has said with power comes with great responsibility!!

zeke2100 profile image

I grew up being a fan of both Spiderman and Batman almost equally. I find it interesting that you did a comparison of two comic book characters from two different universes.

I have always been fascinated that Batman is put on the same level with other superheroes, because he is 100% human and has absolutely no super powers. Yet his suit and gadgets seem to protect him from the deadliest of situations. Considering this, I would say that Batman is pretty incredible just because he is not really a superhero, yet he has survived incursions with the same foes that all of the other superheroes fight.

Please reconsider your stance immediately and rewrite your Hub accordingly.

@zeke2100 - I truly appreciate your honest, yet misguided, comment. Some truths simply cannot be re-written to tickle the ears of the ill-advised followers of the dark knight (note no use of capitals!). However, I will give your request the necessary thought to ensure I have not been mislead myself....

Okay, done! Nothing is gonna change. Have a great day!

Personally, I'm team Superman. Though i had recently been talking with a friend about spidey, and she said he was a whiney, horny little boy that wanted everything to be done for him. i actually came to your hub just to see if ANYONE has reasons against that, and i think that most of these are valid enough to at least make me want to try it out. I usually just stick to DC characters, but because of this article I'll make an exception

Spiderman is the most super of the super heroes because he took the lemons in his life (being bitten by a radioactive spider) and turned it into lemonade. This also makes him super role model.

While Peter Parker/Spiderman is more relatable and likeable, Bruce Wayne/Batman is who MOST men would want to be. He's the definiton of an Alpha male. The mere presense of Batman is intimidating. He's an impsoing figure and has a swagger Spiderman would never have in his wildest of dreams.

Man of Strength:

So why does Batman need a sidekick and Spidey don't?

petenali profile image

@justthemessanger - great point. An Alpha male should be able to stand alone (kinda like, um... Spider-man). I can hear Batman now talking in a mellow tone to Robin, "You......!"

@ the both of ya's,

Batman doesn't NEED a sidekick. Isn't Robin part time any way? Why does he have one? Consult DC Comics.

Google find 2 years ago

Was watching amazing spiderman, and just googled why spiderman is cool, and this hit came up. Fun read. However, one of your early points, about all the batman shows, and that spiderman didn't get a film until 2002, well there was in fact a live action spiderman television show back in the 70's. I'm sure it can be found on youtube somewhere. There was also of course the spiderman animated series of the 1990s, which was also quite good. Anyhow, good read, thanks.

I realize this was tongue and cheek but here's from the other side.

Why Batman is better than Spider-man -

1. He's insanely rich - Batman isn't just well off, he's insanely rich. Like the big money holder in the DCU. More than Lex Luthor or anyone else, Bruce Wayne has megabucks. Peter Parker? Yeah, he scrambles for pocket change and his lack of funds has always been a sticking point.

2. He's got no powers and still scares the bejesus out of everyone - Where does he get those wonderful toys? He makes them. Who can still take out Superman and every nasty bad guy in the DCU (including Darkseid) - the man with the cowl. He just uses his smarts and the devices that he steals from his own company. Did I mention he's insanely rich? Spidey has had the equivalent of a "Kick Me" sign put on his back by the Human Torch.

3. Batman's Trilogy Made More Money - Batman Begins and Dark Knight Returns were mega hits at the box office. And let's face it, after 2001 Toby McGuire's Spider-man, the franchise kinda fizzled out. By the time Spider-man 3 came on board our hero was a weepy sad hero that was just plain embarrassing. Batman 3 recovers from a spine injury and kicks ass as he saves Gotham from a nuclear threat.

4. Spider-man is his own whiny sidekick - While Batman has Robin, he prefers working alone. Spider-man does enough whining for an entire superteam. Honest to God, I don't know how Aunt May just didn't encourage him to just fall on the Green Goblin's glider to just shut him up.

5. Batman is a badass. When the entire JLA got taken down by a Martian superteam, Batman took them out with a pint of gasoline and a match. Spider-man got his ass kicked by a guy wearing a symbiote that stole his powers.

6. Spider-man scores with just one woman. Bruce Wayne has a different one every night - Yup, it may only be his secret identity, but Batman can date anyone he wants. Parker gets lucky a couple of times and then whines about power and responsibility all through the relationship.

7. Spider-man gets buried in a grave for two weeks and no one noticed. - Kraven the Hunter beats the snot out of Spider-man and buried him in a grave for two weeks. No one even thought to look for Parker.

8. Without his webbing, Spider-man can't go anywhere - Batman has an entire array of transport vehicles that can get him around the globe within hours. Spider-man wrecked his Spider-mobile one time out.

9. Batman wages war on crime immediately after his parents die, Spider-man waits seventeen years until his uncle gets killed. - Talk about procrastination.

10. Seriously,... Batman is insanely rich. - Bruce Wayne makes Donald Trump look like a beggar. He's got more money than he'll ever spend in a lifetime. He makes Warren Buffet look cheap. He's loaded.

I could have just listed 1-9 with he's freaking loaded, but I decided that since Parker has spent the last fifty years being a whiny girly man that it had to be mentioned.

Great hub! Loved it! Just the 1stwo point wasn't accurate..... I would point out the fact that Peter invented the Web shooters which makes him really a genius.....Why didn't batman (even Lucias fox) didn't have the idea to build an equipment like that....and also in all new all different 616 universe Peter is a billionaire playboy....and he saves the whole world...I mean it the whole world just not New York or a small town like Gotham.... And also Peter made the money by his own intelligence (let alone doc ock mind swapping).... Like I'm not a billionaire Pete gives me a feeling that someday even I caneed become someone like him....and also Peter made every awesome toystuff he uses now himself....he's got different kinds of Web fluids.....what if Bruce was lost and later adopted by supe's parents? What would he do then? Lol...I can't even imagine!!
