What Films Are Like 'American Pie'?

American Pie is one of the first movies that got me into teen comedies. The genre hasn't been the same since.

It’s the story of a few teenagers who are trying to lose their virginity before they go to college. American Pie never takes itself too seriously. Even in its absurdity, it's relatable for a lot of people.

Movies like American Pie want to make you be a teen again, reminding you of the good old days when scoring chicks was the only thing that mattered. Don't watch these movies with your family, no matter how liberal your parents are.

How'd you rate American Pie out of 5 stars?

  5. Scary Movie
  6. Porky's
  7. Superbad

Can’t Hardly Wait

The plot revolves around a group of friends who decide to party hard after their exams. Of course, the plan doesn't go as well as they would have liked.

Can’t Hardly Wait is clearly targeted at a younger audience. Don’t look for any profound messages in this movie. The purpose here is to entertain the audience, something this movie excels at.

With an entertaining plot and a strong ensemble cast, Can't Hardly Wait cements its place as one of the best movies like American Pie.

Road Trip

Road Trip is a story about Josh, a regular guy who mistakenly mails his random hookup video to his girlfriend. On his quest to prevent her from seeing that, he travels 1800 miles with his buddies, which proves to be the biggest adventure of their lives. You will enjoy their hilarious road trip all the way through.

The character development is one of the strongest I have seen in a teen comedy. The most memorable one is Kyle, whose transformation from a nerd to one of the most likeable characters is heartfelt. There are certain scenes that will stay with you long after the credits roll.

Road Trip is filled with crude sexual jokes and nudity, but so are most teen movies. If you're into films like American Pie, you'll love the profanities. Just don't watch this movie on a date night.

American Pie 2

If you are looking for some movies like American Pie, give its sequel a shot. All four high school friends are now inseparable and commit to being friends forever. Things go awry when they reunite to hold the biggest party ever.

Did you love the pacing, humor, and rhythm of the original movie? American Pie 2 brings more of the same to the table. Remember the scene where Jim is caught masturbating by his father? He was the unluckiest of the bunch.

Fortunes haven't turned around for him in this sequel either. This time around, his dad walks in while he is having sex. It only gets worse from there.

This is just an example of how awkward, crude, and dirty this movie can get just to get a few chuckles out of you.

American Pie movies have always stayed one notch ahead of other teen comedies. There are tons of sexual jokes and double meanings, but it has its heart in the right place.

While American Pie 2 doesn't topple the first one, it certainly lives up to the franchise's name.

Project X

The plot of Project X revolves around three high school boys who decide to throw a big party to lift their social status. Things begin to get out of control as the word of the party spreads around and takes a crazy magnitude.

It’s not a movie you’d want to watch with your kids or family. There is a lot of sex, drama, and drugs. You can still choose to be a proud thug and air it on a family gathering. More brownie points for you!

The ending is a little predictable, but isn't this the case with every teen comedy? You don’t want such movies to be unpredictable with their endings.

There has been a lot of criticism about this movie. It’s not for everyone. If you're a young adult, you're going to enjoy it more than the people of other age groups.

Scary Movie

You will have to give credit to the 1996 teen slasher Scream for reinstating this genre. Tons of slasher comedies have been released since then, but they are seldom any good.

Scary Movie stands on its own with a strong storyline and a talented young cast. It borrows ideas from a few other horror movies and makes an indigestible cocktail out of it.

The plot revolves around a group of teenagers, who had accidentally run over a man a year ago. Fast forward one year, they find themselves being stalked and chased by a random serial killer.

This movie finds humor even in the darkest of moments. Someone is dying and you'll still be laughing your guts out. Despite its dark humor and predictable plotline, you can’t help but laugh at these dumb teens as they make stupidest of decisions in the face of adversity.

Scary Movie cashes in on the success of Scream, but does justice to the slasher genre. Sit back and enjoy the rollercoaster ride.

Porky’s (1981)

Set in 1954, the plot follows some high school kids whose life revolves around sex, booze, and partying. Things spiral out of control when they decide to help a friend lose his virginity.

I’ll say it straight away; there is nothing classy about this movie. You know what's going to be served in a movie revolving around a brothel.

It’s fun to sit back and watch them try to outsmart each other. It reminds you of your high school days.

Some events depicted in this movie are a bit over the top, like watching the girls taking showers and making ludicrous scenes in the boy's locker room. But movies are made for showcasing events and things that we can't do in real life.

Those who had some real fun growing up would love this movie.

Superbad is a story of three high school nerds who desperately want to get laid. When they get invited to a party, they try to get the girls, whom they just met, drunk in the hopes that they'd sleep with them. Things get complicated when one of them runs into cops. As their plan goes down the drain, they start wondering if they'll ever get laid.

The plot is far from original, but it's funny all the way through. The performance of all the three leads feels natural. They're a bunch of manipulative, naive teenagers, but you'll feel for them. It's undoubtedly one of the best teen comedies to come out after American Pie.

Knocked Up

Ben Stone is a nonchalant party savage leading a carefree life. When he hooks up with Alison without any protection, she shows at his doorstep a couple of weeks later, claiming that she is carrying his baby. They decide to have this child. Will Ben finally grow up and be up to the task?

There is no denying that Knocked Up has its fair share of vulgarity. It doesn’t try to beat around the bush. Even so, it’s not a stupid movie. Most of the jokes are sexual and offensive, but they're original and chucklesome.

Knocked Up is a clever, witty movie with a strong plot and authentic acting. Most teen comedies tend to lose their way somewhere down the middle, but this one never lets up once it gets going.

Knocked Up is a teen comedy for everyone.

The Girl Next Door

A sizzling hot girl approaches a new neighborhood and captivates the mind of a young guy living next to her. She is the woman of his dreams. When he finds out that she used to be a famous pornstar, everything takes a turn for the worse. Will they be able to move beyond her past?

In a world where brain-dead teen comedies pop up all the time, movies like this keep the light of hope alive. It’s funny, thought-provoking, and even emotional at times.

With truckloads of teen comedies unloading all the time, it’s possible that I might have missed out on a few good movies. Let me know about them in the comments section.
