Real Male Korean Celebrity Friendships We Should Admire

Updated on February 27, 2019

As much as Koreans love lovelines, it is obvious that friendship is valued more. Many fans pay close attention to skinships and affection shown by a guy to his guy friend(s). A guy's confession on how much he values his friendship with another guy is celebrated more. However, it could be difficult to decipher which actions are just fan service and which ones are real. After all, celebrities are trained to know which buttons to push to get the desired reaction from fans.

Most of the time, real friendships are revealed not during their shows or TV appearances but through photos they tweet or post on instagram. In some occasions, these celebrity friends also open their conversation to the public through their Twitter accounts. It is through these simple and limited space that celebrities allow their fans to know more about them and their friendship with other guys.

Here are some the notable friendships between Korean celebrities.

1. G Dragon and Taeyang

Suengri famously admitted that Big Bang’s relationship was very professional but they were never close until G Dragon’s marijuana scandal and Daesungg’s driving accident. That’s when they all realized how much they value each other. Somehow, it inspired them to form a bond they didn't have before.

However, there is one friendship there that existed and persisted, Taeyang and G Dragon.

These two were friends since they were kids. They have remained friends throughout their training in YG and have continued to be friends to this day. G Dragon has repeatedly called Taeyang his “bestfriend” in public in several interviews. When Taeyang recorded his song about friendship, he automatically called G Dragon. He said that there was no one else who can do the song but G Dragon because G Dragon knows him the most.

Although it is obvious that G Dragon has enjoyed more success than Taeyang in terms of individual career, it is admirable how their friendship remains unaffected to this day.

2. Jang Keun Suk and Rain

Jang Guen Suk is known for being vocal about everything while Rain is known for being reserved and very polite. That’s why many were shocked when Jang Geun Suk revealed that Rain and he are good friends. Many thought that Jang Geun Suk was just trying to rub off some of Rain’s positive image on him.

Jang Geun Suk updated his Twitter on September 11 showing a photo of him and Rain having a good time. It is not often that Rain is photographed doing personal things. He is always busy with promotions, rehearsals, recording, filming and pictorials. For Rain to spend time with another high profile celebrity means a lot.

3. Simon D. and Jung Yong Hwa

These two go way back. Simon D and Jung Yong Hwa have threaded different paths. While Jung Yong Hwa has pursued the life of an idol with one of the biggest and powerful management companies in Korea, Simon D. has pursued Hip Hop, a more niche genre.

However, it hasn’t stop the two from spending time with each other whenever they can. In the episode of Happy Together below, Jung Yong Hwa mentioned they often call each other or see each other when he was about to impersonate Simon D.

Their closeness also became more apparent when the two guested in Running Man last December. They were often the two that goofed around together. They revealed that they were both born in Busan and even went to the same school.

Song Jong Ki and Lee Kwang Soo met when they both joined the cast of Running Man. They were the same age friends. The cast would often tease Lee Kwang Soo of trying to “appear close to Song Joong Ki” to gain fans and good reputation. Sometimes, Song Joong Ki joins in the fun by “denying” friendship with Lee Kwang Soo. However, Song Joong Ki more often showed affection towards Lee Kwang Soo.

When Song Joong Ki left the show because of busy schedule, he openly revealed that Lee Kwang Soo was his closest friend on the show. The good news is that they didn’t lose touch. To this day, they still go out regularly. In a recent interview, Song Joong Ki revealed that Lee Kwang Soo is his only friend who has gone to his house many times. His mother also likes Lee Kwang Soo. In fact, she often cooks for him when he is visiting Song Joong Ki.

5. Haha, Kang Gary and MC Mong

This is one friendship for the books. Their friendship survived the test of fame, poverty, routine, youth and success.

Many don’t know that Ha Dong Hoon (a.k.a. Haha), MC Mong and Kang Gary were friends even before they entered the entertainment industry. Through MC Mong’s controversy, repeated failures and success, they have remained each others’ confidante. Kang Gary and Haha were two of the few celebrities who supported MC Mong when his military scandal broke out. To date, they tweet each other.

Haha supported Kang Gary when Kang Gary was new in the variety show industry. Haha was the one who held Kang Gary’s hand to help him develop his character on the show.

Kang Gary, on the other hand, supports Haha in his music. In fact, he often goes to Haha’s shows for free and helps out in the production. These two openly show affection to each other. They often post photos when they spend time together and tweet each other often. They even openly say “I love you” to each other.

That’s some brotherhood right there.

Kim Jong Kook, Cha Tae Hyun and Jang Hyuk are the famed Dragon brothers. Cha Tae Hyun is a comedian, Jang Hyuk is a serious actor and Kim Jong Kook is a singer/variety star. They all thread different paths but that didn’t stop the dragon brothers from bonding.

They regularly spend time with each other and are always present in each other’s major milestones. When one of them has a major event like a movie premiere or album launching, you can count on the rest to be there. Unlike other celebrity friends, however, they like teasing each other when one is asked about the other. They talk smack about each other a lot and spill each other’s embarrassing secrets.

7. Kim Hyun Joong and TOP

Yup! They are friends and they go way back Middle School.

They first met when they lived in the same neighbourhood and went to the same school. They hit it off right away. They both started dreaming of a future in music together but ended up taking different paths. However, it didn’t change their friendship.

They see each other whenever they can and have a blast imitating each other whenever they are asked about each other on different TV appearances. Their chemistry is evident in the video below.

8. Seulong and Nichkhun

Seulong and Nichkhun don’t belong to the same group but it hasn’t stopped them from becoming BFFs. These two have had more date nights than some Korean Celebrity couples out there. They often share photos whenever they hang out and it seems like eating is their official bonding activity.

Their friendship started when they still were both trainees. They would end up with similar schedules and had a lot of things in common. Now, they consciously make time for each other. Seulong also never left Nichkhun side during his driving accident.

9. Lee Seung Gi & Lee Seo Jin

Lee Seung Gi and Lee Seo Jin are more than a decade apart but that has not stopped the two from forming a bond.

It started when they met after Lee Seung Gi signed with the same agency. Lee Seo Jin said he like Seung Gi right away and wanted to be friends with him. He invited Seung Gi for a drink during Christmas and they have been spending Christmases together since.

Not only that. They also go on vacations together and share their photos to fans. This may not be as “sexy” as the friendship of Seulong and Nichkun and Top and Kim Hyun Joong but it is just as true.

10 Eunhyuk and Junsu

Eunhyuk and Junsu met each other during middle school and have been friends since. They even made a vow never to ever drink or smoke. The amazing thing is that they have kept their promise to each other.

Everyone thought they will be pulled apart when JYJ left SM but they have demonstrated through their Twitter banters that they have remained best of friends.
