Famous Scorpio People
Celebrity Chef Gordon Ramsey
Gordon Ramsey's Background
Gordon Ramsey is that famous, quick tempered, driven TV personality and Scottish chef who looks like he just rolled out of bed and rushed to the restaurant. But that’s a far too simple explanation of this complex and competitive man who owns many restaurants and appears in numerous cooking shows.
Gordon is the second of four children who grew up with an abusive father and devoted mother. His first love was soccer, and he was beginning to pursue a career in it when he sustained injuries and had to find a different path. His father mocked him for his desire to work in the cooking industry, believing it was not masculine enough. Independent as most Scorpios are, he left home at 16 and tried various jobs until he found a place for himself in cooking, as a beginner chef at the Wroxton House Hotel, a 60 seat restaurant at the Wickam Arms.
This worked out for a bit until his sexual relationship with the owner’s wife made for a difficult situation, and Ramsey moved on to London, to work for Marco Pierre White at Harvey’s. After trying again in various establishments and not finding satisfaction, Gordon decided to study French cuisine, and was able to study with many of the best in the industry, thus finding his home.
Gordon Ramsey’s first head chef position was at Aubergine, with financial backing from Marco Pierre White. The place was a success, but the owners wanted to turn Aubergine into a chain, and Ramsey had different ideas. He opened Restaurant Gordon Ramsey in 1998, with the help of his father in law, and after that his empire expanded rapidly. He has won numerous awards, among them Officer of the Empire of the British Empire (OBE), and three Catey awards for Independent Restaurateur of the Year. In 2006 he was named the most influential person in the UK hospitality industry, and in 2013, was inducted into the Culinary Hall of Fame.
Ramsey's Reality Shows and Anecdotes About Him
Many of us know Gordon Ramsey better from his reality TV shows, like Hell’s Kitchen and Kitchen Nightmares. His gets called in to improve failing establishments, raves at the people who can’t work up to his exacting standards, makes them feel like failures, and then does everything he can to help them fix what’s wrong and turn the business around. Gordon is very entertaining to watch, as he is so expressive, and he claims he didn’t realize how foul his language was until “his Mum complained to him about it.” He shows no sign of reforming.
His newest endeavor is Master Chef, on Fox. Ramsey, along with Aaron Sanchez, and Joe Bastianich, begins with numerous aspiring chefs. The three teams are mentored by the three chefs, and at the end of the hour, one is eliminated. The remaining chefs compete for the grand prize of $250,000.00! These guys are the toughest in the business, and just to be mentored by them is a great resume builder. I believe once they win, the mentor helps them find a position in a restaurant.
But Ramsey is not an ogre. His coworkers always show intense loyalty to him and it is said he treats them very well. The late Anthony Bourdain tells an anecdote about Ramsey in his book, A Cook’s Tour. This situation happened earlier in Ramsey’s career, apparently when he was a sous chef. (Bourdain doesn't tell, but I believe this was right before Ramsey opened Aubergine). An abusive chef was cruelly berating Ramsey, and he quit the job on the spot. Every other person in the cook staff followed Ramsey out and went to work for him at his next restaurant.
It is said he buys all his staff gym memberships, because to be on your feet all day lifting heavy pots, pans, and huge sacks of flour requires strength. Even though his fiery temper gets scary and it's hard to meet his exacting standards, he can pulverize people with words until they want to slink under a table. Then he puts his arm around them, and says, "You show great promise. Go back to school, get some experience, and come back to me when you are ready. I'd be proud to have you work in one of my kitchens." It appears he is torn between his own childhood of abuse and the love and support he got from his Mum, and shows both. He can be downright nurturing after throwing the worst tantrum. People adore this man.
Ramsey's Personal Life and Charity Work
Gordon has been married since 1996, to Cayetana Hutcheson, a Montessori school teacher; they have four children. It is his only marriage. He is a big charity supporter who has run 10 London Marathons on behalf of Spina Bifida, making this disease his pet cause. He helped raise money for a Support Center in Glasgow, utilizing the catch phrase, “What’s Your Favorite “F” Word? Gordon’s is Fundraising.” Ramsey has also teamed up with Indian chef Madhur Jeffrey, to support the international charity group, VSO, to help fight aids and HIV in India. They call their effort, “Spice Up Your Life.” The Ramseys were the first ambassadors for the Women’s Aid charity in 2005. Gordon also supports a biennial charity event Soccer Aid for UNICEF. Gordon owns numerous eateries all over the world, and is thought to earn about $60 million dollars a year, making him the 21st highest earning celebrity in the world.
It’s great to know he is so kind about spreading his wealth and taking the time to work with beginner chefs to teach them the level of professional skill they need to compete in a world of so many want to be chefs. I think Mum is proud, and this writer loves watching any show of Ramsey’s. He expects anyone he works with to work at the high standard he expects of himself. The world needs more hard working and generous people like Gordon Ramsey.
Julia Roberts—10/28/67—actually wanted to be veterinarian, but after appearing in a play with her brother Eric, decided she liked acting, even though she only spoke two words! Julia has gone on to make many movies, but probably is best known for Pretty Woman, where she plays a hooker in LA, and is hired to spend the week with a wealthy businessman played by Richard Gere. Both he and the audience fell in love with Julia then, and there was no turning back, though she took the part after many other actresses turned it down. Scorpios have strong gut feelings, and should always listen to them.
She has been in Mystic Pizza, Steel Magnolias, Erin Brockovich, My Best Friend’s Wedding, Notting Hill, Runaway Bride, The Pelican Brief, Ocean’s Eleven and Ocean’s Twelve. She won the Academy Award for Best Actress for Erin Brockovich, and received Golden Globe and Academy Award nominations for Steel Magnolias. Erin Brockovich is a real person and a true story, about a woman who took on the powerful energy company Pacific Gas and Electric, and won.
Julia Roberts Film Career
Julia Roberts is from Georgia, of parents who were both actors and playwrights. When her mother Betty was pregnant with Julia, she ran a children’s acting school in Decatur, GA, and the children of Martin Luther and Coretta Scott King attended it. Mrs. King paid the hospital bill from when Betty was in the hospital having Julia. After finishing high school, Julia headed straight for New York to take acting lessons, which obviously paid off. She is a good sport and has appeared on Sesame Street opposite Elmo. Roberts took on another TV role, on Law and Order with Benjamin Bratt, whom she later dated. In 2006 she did voice overs for two films, The Ant Bully and Charlotte’s Web. Julia also starred in the popular Eat, Pray, Love, based on the novel by Elizabeth Gilbert, though readers of the book thought her character was not “serious” enough. This writer believes the book is always better than the movie, but enjoyed the part in India the best.
Julia's Love Life
Julia Roberts was engaged to Kiefer Sutherland, but they cancelled the wedding three days before it was supposed to happen. She was married to country singer Lyle Lovett for two years before they divorced. She met her current husband while filming The Mexican with her friend Brad Pitt. Danny Moder was the cameraman. She was divorced from Lovett, but Danny was married. He divorced so he and Julia could marry in 2002 at her ranch in Taos, NM. Nobody thought it would last, but they have three children together, twins Hazel and Finn, born in 2004, and Henry born in 2007. Julia has discussed her belief in Hinduism in an interview for Elle magazine. She generously gives her time to UNICEF and other charitable organizations. She visited Haiti in 1995 and tried valiantly to raise ten million dollars to help the people. Roberts is an environmentalist who serves as a spokeswoman for Earth Biofuels, and chairs the new advisory board to promote the use of renewable fuels. Julia also has her own production company called Red Om films. The Pretty Woman seems quite active for a mother of three.
David Jason Muir
David Jason Muir, an American journalist, was born on November 8, 1973, and has risen up the career ladder steadily, having a large fan base. He joined ABC news in 2003 to anchor an obscure show, World News Now. Soon he had a weekend show, and by 2007 he was the co-anchor of Primetime. David got promoted in 2010 to anchor both weekend broadcasts, named World News with David Muir.
He soon co-anchored ABC’s 20/20 with Elizabeth Vargas, a veritable institution for TV watchers. But Muir showed his real self when he got out of the studio during Hurricane Katrina, and reported on the horrific humanitarian crisis unfolding there, as people looked on in horror. He was photographed wading through chest deep water, trying to help desperate patients trapped in hospitals in New Orleans. Muir showed his bravery when he reported from the Israeli/Lebanon border during the 2006 Israeli war with Hezbollah. He was in the Gaza Strip in 2007 to cover the Hamas coup, and in 2007 was dispatched off to Peru to find out what was happening during the worst earthquakes to hit that area in decades.
Muir reported from the Ukraine more than 20 years after the nuclear accident in Chernobyl, and in 2009, David and Diane Sawyer had a special where they discussed the gun situation in the U.S. Muir investigated the BP oil spill, was in Haiti as soon as the earthquake disaster was unfolding, and reported from Tarhir Square during the Egyptian political revolution. So it’s no surprise that David Muir took over the anchor spot vacated by Diane Sawyer, a huge achievement in itself.
More of David Muir's Achievements
David was born in Syracuse, New York, and got his BA in journalism in 1995. He attended the Institute of Political Journalism in Georgetown University, and also studied at the University of Salamanca in Spain, where he became fluent in Spanish as well.
He is currently sharing the spotlight on ABC with fellow Scorpio Gio Benitez, and this writer must admit they are both easier on the eyes than Diane Sawyer!
Bill Gates—or William Henry Gates III--10/28/1955—is one of the most well known entrepreneurs of the personal computer revolution, and the former CEO of Microsoft. Gates was fascinated with computer languages from the time he was in 8th grade, and got in trouble several times for doing experiments on his school’s computers on class time.
The Gates family hails from Seattle. In time it was recognized that Gates was a computer genius, and he was writing code for several computer languages. Although he enrolled at Harvard, Gate’s parents let him drop out (he got a 1590 on his SAT’s) when he convinced them he wanted to start his own company. He worked with his friend Steve Ballmer at Honeywell in 1974, and they began demonstrating their knowledge of computer code, which they called Micro-soft. The BASIC program they wrote was popular with people whose hobby was computers, but when a pre-market copy leaked into the community, Gates felt it unfair that “high quality software could not be distributed without payment.”
This was not a popular move, but made it clear that software developers should deserve payment for their work. And payment they got. Bill Gates is now one of the richest men in the world. He co-founded Microsoft with Paul Allen. He had a reputation for being very hard to work with, not unusual as Scorpio people are very independent. Gates stepped down as CEO of Microsoft in January of 2000. He is one of the best known entrepreneurs of the personal computer revolution, and still remains Microsoft’s largest shareholder.
He remains involved as a non executive chairman now, and the company is run by Ray Ozzie, chief software architect, and Craig Mundie, chief research and strategy officer. Bill Gate’s last day at Microsoft was June 27, 2008. Gates has been criticized for his work tactics, and for creating something of a monopoly, and lost anti-trust court cases in this matter.
Finding himself the recipient of so much wealth, he studied other wealthy people to decide how to donate to charity and become a philanthropist. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation was established in 2000. He used Andrew Carnegie and David Rockefeller as examples, and has credited them with influencing him in philanthropic matters. The Foundation donates large sums of money to immunize children in Third World countries, and to other areas that are not being addressed by other organizations.
Bill and Melinda Gates were the 2nd most generous philanthropists in America in 2007, giving over 28 billion dollars to charity. They plan to eventually give 95% of their income away. Gates, Warren Buffet, and Mark Zuckerberg, signed that agreement, the Gates-Buffet Giving Pledge, in which they promise to donate half of their lifetime wealth to charity over the course of time.
Bill Gates is the world’s youngest self-made billionaire, worth 1.25 billion by his 32nd birthday. Time Magazine has honored him as one of the Most Influential People four times, and in 2005, named U2 singer Bono, and Melinda and Bill Gates as Persons of the Year for their humanitarian efforts. He and his wife have three children together, and live in an earth-sheltered mansion built into the side of a hill, worth $125 million, near Lake Washington in Medina, Washington.
Charles Manson An Infamous Scorpio
Charles Manson—11/12/1934-11/19/17—is an American criminal, head of the “Manson Family” a group of drug addicts and hippies, who drifted into a life of communal living and crime. His mother sold him for a pitcher of beer when he was a child. Manson spent more than half of his life in prison by the time he was 34. He believed a society of black people would overcome the whites in a class war, which he called “Helter Skelter” based on the song from the Beatles White Album.
He wanted to start this race war by beginning some of the murders and pandemonium himself. He was a charismatic figure, and brainwashed his followers into committing unspeakable crimes. A whole counterculture arose from the horrible crimes he persuaded others to commit, so Manson became a symbol of insanity, violence, and the lost idealism of the 1960s. Manson established a base for his group by Topanga Canyon, CA. Lynette “Squeaky” Fromme was part of the group, and Charles Watson, a drifter from TX joined them.
In August of 1969, Manson told Watson to take Susan Atkins, Linda Kasabian, and Patricia Krenwinkel to a house he knew and “totally destroy everyone in it, as gruesome as you can.” In the house were the 8 ½ month pregnant Sharon Tate, friend Jay Sebring, Wojciech Frykowski, and his girlfriend Abigail Folger. Watson and the girls found their way into the house. All four victims were bound and stabbed, even as they made desperate attempts to get away. Tate pleaded for her baby’s life.
Even after they were dead, the victims were stabbed numerous times. Atkins wrote “pig” on the wall in Tate’s blood, and the four killers ditched their bloody clothes in the canyon on the way back to the ranch. The next night, 6 family members set off to the La Bianca house, Leslie Van Houten, Steve Grogan, and the four from the previous night. This time Manson went with them. They got to the home of Leno La Bianca and his wife Rosemary. Once again, they began binding the occupants of the house, stabling them repeatedly, with knives and a bayonet. Watson carved “war” on Leno’s abdomen. Krenwinkel and Van Houten repeatedly stabbed Rosemary, 41 times after she was dead, according to the postmortem reports. Krenwinkel also wrote “Rise,” “Death to the Pigs,” and “Helter Skelter” on the walls in her blood.
The LAPD did not connect the Tate and La Bianca murders until a roommate of Susan Atkins came forward with information. Watson, Krenwinkel, and Kasabian were arrested in the Tate case, and their involvement in the La Bianca case was noted. Manson and Atkins were already in custody. Susan Atkins had given testimony to the police by this time.
The trial was a circus, the women still very much under the sway of Manson, although Kasabian was the prosecution’s main witness. She, along with Manson, Atkins, and Krenwinkel, were charged with 7 counts of murder and one count of conspiracy. Even though these women spent life in prison, they kept trying to protect Manson, pretending he was not involved. They completely ruined their lives while only in their early twenties. When Manson carved a cross in his forehead, so did they. When he shaved his hair off, so did they. TV shots of them showed them laughing and singing, while the country looked upon the whole affair in horror.
Watson was returned to TX and sentenced to death. Atkins died in prison of brain cancer in 2009. In 1975, Squeaky Fromme tried to assassinate President Ford. She tried to escape from Alderson Federal Prison Camp in WV, and to reach Manson, but was apprehended. She was released on parole in 2009. In February of 1972, all five had their death sentences reduced to life in prison, because the death penalty was abolished in CA. Charles Manson was up for parole for the 12th time and denied it again in April of 2012. Sadly, these sick people were glorified by many individuals and embraced by underground newspapers. Manson was imprisoned until he was 78 years old in Corcoran State Prison. He died there on November 19, 2017, to little fanfare.
*This writer was torn about the subject of Manson, as generally an evil person does not deserve attention. But my goal in writing about astrology is to teach, and when I say Scorpio people can be very good or very bad, I mean it. The bad Scorpios are the black sheep of any family, the alcoholics, drug addicts, abusers, and murderers.
Anne Hathaway Career and Personal Life
Anne Hathaway—11/12/1982—is an actress who comes from New York City. She was raised Catholic, but when she discovered her brother was gay, decided she could not embrace a church who did not support her brother. This was disturbing on another level, as Anne had considered becoming a nun. Had she gone on to this future, the public would have missed her wonderful performances in The Princess Diaries, The Devil Wears Prada, Brokeback Mountain, and Becoming Jane, about Jane Austin. Anne was in Tim Burton’s version of Alice in Wonderland and Love and Other Drugs.
She won an Emmy for a voice over performance on The Simpsons. She was named as one of the breakthrough stars of 2001 by People Magazine. Hathaway sang as a soprano in 1998 and 1999 with the All Eastern U.S. High School Honors Chorus at Carnegie Hall, and has performed in plays at Seton Hall Preparatory School in West Orange, N.J. She was cast in a Fox TV show called Get Real at age 16, but the show did not last long.
Her first role in a motion picture was a Disney film The Other Side of Heaven, which was a memoir based on John H. Groberg’s In The Eye of the Storm. Before that was produced, she acted with Julie Andrews as Mia Thermopolis, in the Princess Diaries. Hathaway auditioned for the part during a flight layover from New Zealand, and won the role over 500 other girls. It became a major success, as she has great chemistry and really shines. Anne continued to play family themed roles for a bit, and was becoming known as a good role model for children. After The Princess Diaries 2, she began taking on more adult roles, hoping her audience would grow up along with her.
Obviously, they did. She did a nude scene in Havoc, but denied it was a move to be seen as more mature, that the nature of the story demanded that of her, and she did not find nudity morally objectionable. Anne thought playing opposite Meryl Streep in The Devil Wears Prada, was a dream come true, calling Meryl “divine.” She also said making the movie made her respect the fashion world more, as the part she played was of a go-fer who got the cast off clothes from models and had to constantly keep thin and looking gorgeous.
Now Hathaway has become the face of the Lancome fragrance Magnifique. She was a host of Saturday Night Live in 2008. She also was in a modern adaption of the TV show Get Smart, portraying Agent 99, in The Passengers, and Rachel Getting Married opposite Debra Winger. Her performance as Kim led to both nominations for a Golden Globe and an Academy Award. Anne said she felt a strong emotional connection with her character in the film, and felt it was a realistic depiction of relationships. It was made official in 10/11 that Hathaway would play Fantine in the Tom Hooper Les Miserables, based on the musical. She won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for this role. Hooper saw footage of Hathway singing “I Dreamed A Dream,” and thought it was raw and real.
Anne had to cut her hair short in a pixie cut for the role, but said “that to transform yourself into another person is what acting is about.” Hathaway is involved in charities, among them The Creative Coalition, The Step-Up Woman’s Network, St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital and the Lollipop Theatre Network. She was honored at Elle’s magazine in 2008 in their “Women of Hollywood” tribute, as she spoke about her battles with depression which she was able to face without drugs.
Anne was involved with an Italian Real Estate developer named Raffaello Follieri, and took part in a charitable organization run by his foundation. It raised money for vaccinations for children in Third World countries, but Follieri got in trouble with the IRS and other legal issues, and Anne was afraid he would hurt her career, so they broke up. Anne Hathaway got engaged to actor Adam Shulman in November 2011 and they married in a Jewish ceremony in 2012. They sold their wedding photo and donated the profits to a same sex advocacy group called Freedom to Marry. They had a son in 2016. They live in NY's Upper West Side.
Hathaway has projects in the works, including a 2018 movie called Serenity. In 2019, she is participating in a remake of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, called The Hustle, opposite Rebel Wilson and Alex Sharpe. Anne Hathaway is one of the most accomplished women in her generation.
Prince Charles of Wales
Charles, Prince of Wales—11/14/1948—is the eldest child and heir to the throne of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Phillip, Duke of Edinburgh. He was born in Buckingham Palace, and baptized with water from the River Jordan by the Archbishop of Canterbury Geoffrey Fisher. At the age of three, his mother’s ascension to the throne as Queen, rather than Princess Elizabeth, made him the heir. It was announced that Charles would attend public school when he was five, making him the first heir who was not privately tutored. Charles attended Trinity University, Cambridge University, and the University College of Wales, the first heir to have a college degree.
Charles began to consider Lady Diana Spenser as a marriage choice in the 1980’s. He was being pressured to enter into marriage, and Diana was a suitable candidate. She was only 19 when they began to date, and somewhat awestruck by him. Charles proposed in February 1981, and the wedding took place in St. Paul’s Cathedral July 29th of the same year. The difference in their ages, the fact that Charles did not end his relationship with Camilla Parker Bowles, and the pressure from the media was too much for Diana. They separated in 1992, and Diana was killed in a car crash in 1996.
The couple did have two sons together, William, the next heir, and Henry (known as Harry). Camilla and Charles married in 2005, though the Archbishop of Canterbury included a strong act of penitence from the 1662 Book of Common Prayer into the ceremony. Prince William married Katherine (Kate) Middleton in 2011, and they now have a son named George, a daughter named Charlotte, and a new addition to the family, Louis.
Prince Harry also married Megan Markle, a commoner from the U.S. on May 19, 2018. As their affair continued, the British press embraced Megan, Duchess of Sussex, as the Brits are happy to see Diana's sons happy. So both of Charles' sons have made successful lives and seemingly happy marriages which would make their mother proud.
Charles has established fifteen charitable organizations, loosely referred to as The Prince’s Charities. He is actually a lot more interesting a person than people seem to think he is, quiet about his good works like most Scorpios. He is interested in architecture and urban planning, and feels that the environment should be respected as cities are renewed. He thinks old and beautiful buildings should be restored, and when there is a need for housing or business buildings, they should enhance the quality of life of citizens, not make the area look too overbuilt and overpopulated.
He has written two books,The Prince’s Regeneration Trust, and The Prince’s Foundation for the Built Environment. He is against destruction of history shown through architecture. Charles also visited Romania to point out to others what wanton destruction looks like and how it is a blemish on the cities and a sorrowful loss of history. He has been serious about environmental issues since the 1980’s.
Charles is also pushing for more information and action regarding climate change. He received a medal in 2011 for his work regarding conservation of the rain forests. Prince Charles is also a champion of alternative medicine. He created a Foundation for Integrated Health in 2004, and believes medical practitioners should work with herbal and alternative products when possible, to have a greater emphasis on homeopathy.
Prince Charles is also an advocate of humanitarian issues, particularly people who have been out of work for a long time, those who have been in trouble with the law, students who have difficulty in school, and works with them through The Prince’s Trust. He offers loans to groups, businesses, and others who need support. Along with his sons, he has created an International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. Charles has a special relationship with Canada, and its Aboriginal peoples. He visits them to walk and meditate. He has received special titles for his work in these areas.
The Prince attends Anglican church services close to Highgrove. He also worships with the Queen and the rest of the family Crathie Kirk at Balmoral Castle. He was appointed Lord High Commissioner to the general assembly of the Church of Scotland. Charles is also interested Islamic studies and attends classes at the University of Oxford. Prince Charles became friends with Sir Laurens van der Post, who is the godfather of his son, Prince William. Charles has focused on philosophies, especially Middle Eastern and Asian ones, and he likes Kabalistic artwork. Prince Charles also sings, paints in watercolors, plays the cello, and is fascinated by illusionism. It seems he is a man of many interests and passions.
