Invincible's Heroes are Surprisingly Complex

The superpowered characters that populate the adult animated series Invincible are surprisingly complex. Many are obvious parodies of heroes and villains in the Marvel and DC universes, but they're more than cheap knockoffs. There are heroes with noticeable flaws and villains with redeeming qualities.

Of course, their superpowers are just as interesting, with many reaching Justice League-level power—or as this universe calls it, Guardians of the Globe. Which hero will reign supreme? These are the ten strongest characters in Season 1 of Invincible!

Spoilers ahead.

Robot

Robot

10. Robot

Real Name: Rudolph "Rudy" Connors

Originally though to be a true machine, it's eventually revealed Rudy's robotic shell is merely one of many drones controlled by him. This lets the real Rudy operate his machines from safety, and he's a fierce combatant, wielding various energy blasts and other gadgets.

Rudy is also intelligent and cunning, a skilled scientist and strategist willing to bend rules to accomplish his goals.

Titan

Titan

9. Titan

Real Name: Unknown

Titan can turn his already-impressive physique into solid rock, granting immense strength and durability. He falls somewhere between hero and villain, but is able to persuade Invincible into a temporary alliance, showcasing a surprising amount of long-term strategy, as this lets him ultimately usurp his boss's criminal empire.

Atom Eve

Atom Eve

8. Atom Eve

Real Name: Samantha Eve Wilkins

Former member of Teen Team (a Teen Titans pun), Eve bears one of the coolest and most versatile powers in the show: she can manipulate matter at the atomic level. She commonly uses this to fly, fire energy blasts, and construct energy shields, but it can be used to do practically anything; Eve's been seen instantly "showering", growing crops for farmers, and more.

7. War Woman

Real Name: Holly

An easily-spotted expy of Wonder Woman, War Woman is one of many Guardians Omni-Man kills near the show's beginning. Nonetheless, she (with help) is one of few to put a dent in the near-unbeatable warrior, with her and Immortal landing several hits.

Her strength, durability, leadership, and choice of weapon (mace) make her a fierce combatant in close quarters, and she's one of the last to fall in the climatic battle.

Red Rush

Red Rush

6. Red Rush

Real Name: Josef

A Russian parody of Flash, Red Rush's speedster abilities make him invaluable for transporting civilians or helping allies dodge—notably, he kept the Guardians safe from Omni-Man, and the moment he fell marked where the tide of the battle started to turn.

Red Rush also explores the downsides of having powers, as he explains to his girlfriend how his perception of time makes regular conversation incredibly boring because it feels like hours to him.

Allen the Alien

Allen the Alien

5. Allen the Alien

Real Name: Same thing

While it's hard to gauge Allen's full strength given we've only briefly seen him in combat against Invincible, and that battle was settled simply by a conversation, it's telling that he can fight Viltrumites (the race Mark and his father belong to) and freely travel through space.

Allen works for the Coalition of Planets, traveling the galaxy and ensuring each planet has competent defenders, and he seems to have battled Omni-Man in the past, an impressive feat even if he likely didn't win.

The Immortal

The Immortal

4. The Immortal

Real Name: Unknown

The original leader of the Guardians, the Immortal has very similar powers to Omni-Man, just not quite as extreme. He's strong, durable, can fly, and has the unique ability of not aging. He's also difficult if not impossible to permanently kill, as he can be revived as long as his heart and brain are reconnected. Though we have yet to see it really manifest, he also has centuries of experience and wisdom behind him.

Battle Beast

Battle Beast

3. Battle Beast

Real Name: Thokk

Battle Beast is a strong as he looks, but he's also rather fast for his size and wields his deadly mace with incredible prowess. He's powerful enough to (with some help) overcome Invincible and the new Guardians of the Globe, including impressive defeats of Black Samson and Monster Girl.

Seeing him in additional battles will help gauge his ranking, but it's already clear he's no slouch.

Invincible, Mark Grayson

Invincible, Mark Grayson

2. Invincible

Real Name: Mark Grayson

Mark can fly and wields incredible power, with inexperience being his one real failing. As his father tells him, Mark's speed is like a muscle to be exercised, meaning he's likely only unlocked a fraction of his potential.

Nonetheless, he's still one of the strongest warriors on Earth and one of few to land any damage on Omni-Man. While Mark notably gains a power boost from anger, his best trait is durability—despite the vicious beatings the poor kid suffers, he always manages to survive and rarely has his faith shaken.

Omni-Man

Omni-Man

1. Omni-Man

Real Name: Nolan Grayson

Was there any question who'd appear here? From the very first episode, it's quickly apparent that this world's equivalent to Superman holds the world in his palm. From defeating the combined might of the Guardians to easily conquering the government's best secret weapons (kaiju and satellite weapons), Omni-Man combines the speed of Red Rush with the power of Battle Beast, and he's been shown dominating entire planets.

How to view Omni-Man (vicious killer or brainwashed hero) proves a central theme of the first season, with his kindhearted fatherly nature conflicting with his sometimes brutal treatment of others.

Seasons 2 and 3 Coming!

Although specific dates have not been announced, Seasons 2 and 3 of Invincible were confirmed by show creator Robert Kirkman in an April 2021 tweet. Who knows when we finally see our heroes in action again, but I have no doubt we're going to meet many new and potent characters.

For now, avid fans can explore the comic to satiate their hunger and I'll see you at our next anime countdown!
