Jutsu in Naruto

In the Naruto world, characters use their chakra energy for a variety of "jutsu" effects. Jutsu fall into one of three categories: taijutsu (martial arts), genjutsu (illusions), and ninjutsu (anything else).

Jutsu are also divided into ranks from E (weakest) to S (strongest). The higher the rank, the more powerful the effect, though stronger abilities take time to master and quickly drain chakra. Only a few dozen S-rank jutsus exist; which reign supreme? These are the ten best S-Rank jutsu in Naruto!

Sasuke's Kirin
Sasuke's Kirin

10. Kirin

User: Sasuke Uchiha
Classification: Ninjutsu

The Kirin attack releases a devastating lighting bolt, strong enough to destroy Itachi's Susanoo summon. The move requires thunder clouds to execute (which can be created with fire jutsu if none are available), and the clouds disperse after use, meaning the user only has one shot per fight.

But to compensate, Kirin mostly relies on the natural energy of lightning, letting the user save their chakra for other techniques.

Orochimaru's Eight Branches
Orochimaru's Eight Branches

9. Eight Branches Technique

User: Orochimaru
Classification: Ninjutsu

Orochimaru's strongest serpent-related jutsu, the Eight Branches transforms him into a giant eight-headed serpent. The monster's sheer size should easily overwhelm most foes, and Orochimaru can emerge from any of the heads to attack with his Sword of Kusanagi.

Sakura's Strength of a Hundred Seal
Sakura's Strength of a Hundred Seal

8. Strength of a Hundred Seal

Users: Tsunade, Sakura
Classification: Ninjutsu

Developed by the fifth Hokage, this technique requires substantial chakra control. The user stores chakra over time onto their body (usually the forehead), which manifests as a diamond-shaped marking.

When needed, the shinobi can use "Yin Seal: Release" to transfer the stored energy into their body, giving them far more resources to access. The move can also be combined with "Creation Rebirth" to form "Strength of a Hundred", which auto-heals the user from any injury as long as they have chakra remaining.

Orochimaru's Living Corpse Reincarnation

7. Living Corpse Reincarnation

User: Orochimaru
Classification: Ninjutsu

This ability transfers the user's soul into another person's body, effectively letting them become immortal by repeatedly corrupting new hosts. If perhaps not the most helpful in combat, this ability circumvents death—something even the strongest attack is useless against.

Minato's Dead Demon Consuming Seal

6. Dead Demon Consuming Seal

Users: Hiruzen, Minato
Classification: Ninjutsu

When you see two Hokages (the third and fourth) utilize a special jutsu, you know it's powerful. The ability summons a Shinigami that immobilizes the target, allowing the user to remove their soul. It's a suicidal attack, as the Shinigami slowly kills the user once the technique completes, but it's undoubtedly powerful, able to permanently paralyze foes even when the only partially completed (seen with Orochimaru).

Naruto's Rasenshuriken

5. Wind Release: Rasenshuriken

User: Naruto
Classification: Ninjutsu

Naruto often forms this attack by using Shadow Clones to reduce the strain on his chakra, though he eventually masters it to the point of creating it alone. Either way, he can throw the energy or use it as a melee weapon to hit foes with tremendous force.

The blast is composed of so many microscopic blades that even the Sharingan can't detect them all, and it causes such intense damage that the chakra reserves of the victim may become permanently destroyed.

Matatabi's Tailed Beast Ball

4. Tailed Beast Ball

Users: Anyone with a Tailed Beast (Naruto, Killer B, etc.)
Classification: Ninjutsu

Usable by ninja who transform into their beast forms, the Tailed Beast Ball unleashes an energy sphere with incredible speed and power. The orb travels miles in just a few seconds, and it's an adaptable technique, able to be charged up for even stronger blows or unleashed as a beam rather than sphere.

Guy's Night Guy

3. Night Guy

User: Might Guy
Classification: Taijutsu

A forbidden jutsu, Night Guy can only be performed by opening all eight chakra gates. Then, the user charges foes with such speed that space itself is distorted, preventing defense, and attacks with a monstrously strong kick.

Even Madara Uchiha infused with the Ten-Tails's power feared for his life when it was used against him, and the move's own recoil damage ravaged Guy's leg, permanently crippling him.

Minato's Flying Thunder God Technique

2. Flying Thunder God Technique

User: Minato, Tobirama
Classification: Ninjutsu

Used by the second and fourth Hokage, the first step in this move is "marking" a target (which can be performed with the slightest touch). Anytime afterwards, the user can immediately teleport to the target's location, no matter how far away they are.

Plus, the user can also mark inanimate objects, and they can control several simultaneously, letting them warp nearly anywhere. Applications include marking a kunai before throwing it, then warping to it for a surprise attack.

Useful for both offense and escape, this move earned Minato fame as the fastest ninja of all time. Other people and objects the user touches can also be transported, though this requires additional chakra.

The revived Hokage

1. Summoning: Impure World Reincarnation

User: Kabuto
Classification: Ninjutsu

This dark technique binds a deceased soul to a living vessel, allowing the user to revive the dead. The resurrected bodies must obey the summoner, although if given leeway in how they execute orders, they can undermine commands to an extent.

Orochimaru can only revive targets with some of their original strength intact, but Kabuto masters the ability, letting his puppets act at nearly full power. Although the technique requires some DNA from the revived target, it doesn't demand any chakra, leading Kabuto to rightfully dub it the most powerful jutsu in history.

More Powerful Jutsu in Naruto

Today we've examined Naruto's most devastating S-rank effects, but it's just the tip of the iceberg—some lower-ranked commands are arguably stronger than other S-ranks (like A-ranks "Immense Network Healing" and "Fission Technique").

We'll undoubtedly discover additional menacing abilities as Naruto's son Boruto embarks on his own journey, but for now, vote for your favorite and I'll see you at our next anime countdown!

      @No one

You're half-right; those are the names the English dub of the anime uses, but the official names are as stated in the article.

It's called reaper death seal, not Dead Demon Consuming Seal. It's tailed beast bomb, not ball.
