The 5 Best Romance Anime of 2015
- Akagami no Shirayuki-hime (Snow White with the Red Hair)
- Kamisama Hajimemashita (Season 2)
- Ore Monogatari!! (My Love Story!!)
- Plastic Memories
- Yamada-kun to 7-nin no Majo (Yamada-kun and the Seven Witches)
1. Akagami no Shirayuki-hime (Snow White with the Red Hair)
The first time I laid my eyes on Akagami no Shirayuki-hime, I didn’t expect to witness such a surreal and wholesome romantic fairy tale. I was instantly enthralled. I was completely charmed. But most of all, I was enwrapped by a story that’s so innocent and pure that it made my heart jump for joy.
Akagami no Shirayuki-hime is as beautiful as it is compelling. It narrates the love story of a noble prince and a country girl with a beautiful, red hair. Does this sound typical to you? Well, it sure is—but not in the scope of today’s anime shows.
More than an emblematic romance/shoujo anime show, Akagami no Shirayuki-hime plays out like an enchanted fairy tale. It’s vivid and majestic in every detail. This is the kind of show that refreshes and heals. If you wish to make your heart flutter with sterling, romantic fervor, then this is exactly the show to watch!
2. Kamisama Hajimemashita (Season 2)
After how the first season of Kamisama Hajimemashita managed to melt my heart, I was so happy that they finally released its second season in 2015. To tell the truth, I have been waiting for this to come out since I watched it a few years prior.
Following the very last second I watched the last episode of the first season of Kamisama Hajimemashita, I thought: “I need more!” For an anime show that is as sweet and as light as this one, I believed that its number of episodes were absolutely not enough! Luckily, 2015 came. And to my pleasant surprise, the second season of Hajimemashita Mashita was on par, if not better, than its first season.
Supernatural love can’t get any more romantic than this! Kamisama Hajimemashita is truly worth the watch. Its visuals, its soundtrack, its characters, and its plot—everything echoes perfectly to produce a one-of-a-kind amorous atmosphere! As far as romance/shoujo anime shows are concerned, Kamisama Hajimemashita is one of the most satisfying lovey-dovey series out there.
3. Ore Monogatari!! (My Love Story!!)
Ore Monogatari!! is an anime series about an intimidating-looking high school dude who actually has a heart of gold and a cool demeanor but always seem to fail to pursue a love story of his own. Doesn’t this plot sound interesting? Well, it sure did pique my interest so I watched it and genuinely relished it!
To put it more accurately, Ore Monogatari!! is a romantic comedy (rom-com) series. Along with the romance, it also focuses on bringing the chuckles. This should be obvious based on its plot summary and premise.
Anyway, I’m glad I didn’t judge this show by its cover before I picked it up. If I did, I would have missed a gem that is not only splendidly simple, but also pure. I cannot emphasize this enough, so please—don’t judge this show by its cover (erm...its main character’s appearance to be exact)! Trust me, this show is more than just about appearances.
4. Plastic Memories
Every time I remember Plastic Memories, I almost tear up. Why? That’s because this show is actually dramatic and not just romantic. When you are presented with a plot that forces you to contemplate about how brief life actually is, there’s nothing much to feel but melancholy and desolation. This is the reality that Plastic Memories wants to present; and it does so until it gets the point across.
Although Plastic Memories is a bit underwhelming when it comes to plot development and musicality, it counterbalances everything by focusing on the relationship and development of the main characters. After all, this is a romance anime show. And despite the fact that this show wastes a lot of its own plot potential, it does manage to invoke the appropriate feelings and emotions from the viewers. For that reason, I can say that Plastic Memories is still undeniably one of the most decent romance anime shows from 2015 to watch.
5. Yamada-kun to 7-nin no Majo (Yamada-kun and the Seven Witches)
You might be wondering why Yamada-kun to 7-nin no Majo is listed here. You might even be saying: “It’s clearly a generic harem anime with copious amounts of fan service melded with some supernatural attributes.” Well, you’re only partly correct. Ultimately, this show is a romantic comedy that lives up to its own hype!
Yamada-kun to 7-nin no Majo may be cluttered with overused tropes and genericism, but it’s actually more than what it appears to be. It has colorful visuals, some decent soundtrack, an interesting plot, and a huge load of pleasing rom-com moments.
Honestly speaking, this show had me laughing a lot just as it had me emotionally invested in its lighthearted rom-com story as I watched it back then. I never though of it as a disappointment. In fact, it left me craving for more. Yamada-kun to 7-nin Majo is definitely a rom-com show from 2015 that is not to be missed for anything!
