1. Dumbbell Nan Kilo Moteru? (How Heavy Are the Dumbbells You Lift?)

In 2019, there was one anime that stood out glaringly as if it was flexing a muscle. It has the words "dumbbell" and "kilo" in its title. So is it a sports anime?! Not really. Dumbbell Nan Kilo Moteru? is actually a sexy, educational, and motivational comedy anime!

It's rare to see anime shows that are comedic and serious at the same time. The way Dumbbell Nan Kilo Moteru? talks about exercise, workout, and diet is straightforward, enlightening, and engrossing. It imparts serious nuggets of wisdom in a comical light.

Think of Dumbbell Nan Kilo Moteru? as a real instructional workout video that offers plenty of laughs on the side. Not only does this show have the potential to motivate you to exercise, its well-timed jokes can also give your abs a free workout.

It's" Kaguya vs. Miyuki" in this humorous and witty war of love. Who's going to prevail in forcing the other to make a love confession?

2. Kaguya-sama: Love is War

Kaguya-sama: Love is War delivers a comedic battle of wits as its leads, Kaguya and Miyuki, try to force one another to confess their romantic feelings. There is but one simple rule: "whoever confesses first loses!"

I didn't expect to get so much entertainment value from Kaguya-sama: Love is War when I first laid my eyes on it. Usually, romantic-comedy shows follow generic plots and directions; but this one is different! It actually puts the" comedy" in romantic-comedy. I love how this show uses mind games to keep things in motion as it prepares to drop the occasional laughter bomb. I'm thoroughly impressed and amused!

Without a shred of doubt, Kaguya-sama: Love is War is the best romantic-comedy anime of 2019. If you're wondering how this show's romance aspect fares, It has a cluster of romantic elements scattered throughout the plot, clearly leading to a climatic love confession. But more than that, this show is a rib-tickling, mind-stimulating, and heart-tingling jamboree.

Follow the misadventures of Iruma-kun in the demon world, including attending demon school, as he tries not to get anyone discover that he's actually a human.

3. Marimashita! Iruma-kun (Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun)

It fascinates me to no end that I stumbled upon a 2019 anime that feels like a frolicsome weekend TV cartoon show from the past. Marimashita! Iruma kun is straightforwardly a show that kids of all ages (including grown-ups) can enjoy at their leisure.

As far as its plot is concerned, Marimashita! Iruma kun is brazenly full of mischief. A pushover and luckless teenage boy who can't resist to say no to anyone as long as they say "please" suddenly finds himself in the demon world—adopted as the grandson of an eccentric demon and obliged to attend a school for demons. Naturally, the unexpected turn of events quickly leads to awkward circumstances and crazy situations that are almost always devilishly hilarious!

Every step taken in the peculiar and kaleidoscopic universe of Marashima! Iruma kun is laughter-filled and peppy. Aside from the fact this show is purely entertaining and impish, it does seem to have the potential to surpass all cursory expectations. After all, this anime that seemed predictable to me at first is actually full of unexpected surprises.

Join the over-cautious hero Seiya and the useless goddess Ristarte in their crazy quest to save the treacherous world of Gaeabrande.

4. Shinchou Yuusha (Cautious Hero)

It's a grave understatement to call the hero of Shinchou Yuusha, Seiya, cautious. He's not just cautious; he's cautious to a fault! It also doesn't help that the goddess that accompanies him in his perilous journey, Ristarte, is hopelessly useless and hysterical. The moment I understood what's actually going on in this show, I found myself trapped in a whirlpool of ecstasy. Then, I uttered: "This is going to be the most unforgettable comedy/isekai anime of 2019!" I was right.

Shinchou Yuusha is wildly amusing the same way the paragon of comedy/isekai anime KonoSuba: God's Blessing on this Wonderful World is. The only difference is that this show is plot-driven and fast-paced. It departs with a bang just as fast as it makes its flashy entrance.

It's crazy how Shinchou Yuusha can incite uncontrollable laughter just by brandishing its farcical state of affairs and its characters' nutty dynamics. This show hits like a truck especially when you realize that every piece that's all over the place actually fits the puzzle. This short-lived anime is a must-watch, I dare say!

With the power of technological advancement, awkward tsundere Ueno-san will do everything just to make the ultra-dense Tanaka fall in love with her.

5. Ueno-san wa Bukiyou (How Clumsy You Are, Miss Ueno)

Ueno-san wa Bukiyou is an anime about a genius middle-schooler inventor who’s out not to further advance humanity’s ever-evolving science and technology, but to elicit a romantic reaction from her crush. What a silly yet intriguing plot. Color me curious!

Miss Ueno is a real-deal tsundere. Despite wanting to be upfront with her feelings, her thoughts always render her nervous. The apple of her eye, Tanaka, is also tricky to interact with because he’s super dense! This leads to Ueno-san coming up with the craziest technological shenanigans, often utilized in various romantic and pervy ways, just to grab Tanaka’s attention. Will she ever succeed in her pursuit of romantic love? Or will every quirky plan of hers just backfire in the most hilarious of ways as usual?

There’s a high amount of mirth and pleasure in Ueno-san no Bukiyou. After all, it’s not just a comedy anime, but also a hybrid ecchi/romance anime. At around 10 minutes per episode, this show manages to deliver concentrated fun and excitement in short bursts. Oh how I wished every episode was longer! And just like how innovative and creative Ueno-san is, this anime never feels boring and tedious because it’s highly proficient in telling the same old joke in a myriad of revolutionary ways.

Great list! I'm watching Welcome to Demon School at the moment, and it is positively hilarious.

Over the past week, I also find myself mumbling "SKU NI!!!" a lot.
