- Naraku (Inuyasha)
- Makoto Itou (School Days)
- Sōsuke Aizen (Bleach)
- Kyuubey (Puella Magi Madoka Magica)
- Squealer/Yakomaru (Shinsekai Yori)
- Nobuyuki Sugōu (Sword Art Online)
- Shinji Ikari (Neon Genesis Evangelion)
- Seryu Ubiquitous (Akame ga Kill!)
10 – Seryu Ubiquitous (Akame ga Kill!)
Don’t let her kind and compassionate appearance fool you! Seryu Ubiquitous is a real nut job with a very twisted sense of justice.
So why do people hate her? It’s because she seems all good and virtuous in the early parts of the story. This makes the twist of her turning into a monstrous maniac more of a gut punch. She wields the cute biological weapon called Koro, which turns into a grotesque beast the moment she unleashes its berserker state. Seryu and Koro make a good pair—both are the complete opposite of what they look like.
The biggest reason Seryu is hated is because she kills Sheele—a loveable fan-favorite who happens to be the first main character to die. Her ideals and values are black and white, making her more of a villain than the hero she believes. Many fans hope to see her suffer a horrendous fate.
9 – Shinji Ikari (Neon Genesis Evangelion)
Shinji Ikari may be the main character of Neon Genesis Evangelion, but a lot of people don’t actually like him. He’s whiny, wimpy, and cowardly. He just doesn't feel like a protagonist. He is the personification of the word loser.
Many people simply fail to notice his circumstances. Having had a difficult childhood, he became depressed and broken beyond repair. Because of this, people have come to subconsciously relate to him. It is even said that some fans hate Shinji only because they see themselves in him.
8 – Nobuyuki Sugōu (Sword Art Online)
His face says it all. A conceited, power-tripping, immoral bastard. Not to mention he is kind of a pervert.
Nobuyuki Sugou is responsible for kidnapping and experimenting on 300 Sword Art Online players. He rerouted their minds into another game and held them there against their will. To top it off, he caged the main heroine, harassed her, and even attempted to marry her real body while her mind was still inside the game.
But then, justice was served. He got to experience a dose of his own medicine, courtesy of the protagonist Kirito. Noboyuki was eventually arrested. It may not be enough, but at least his wicked plan ended in failure.
7 – Squealer/Yakomaru (Shinsekai Yori)
Squealer (also known as Yakomaru) is a villain like no other. At first, he was actually an ally to the protagonists. It turns out he was just waiting for the right moment to dethrone the gods.
He broke the mind of his own queen and left her alive despite all the suffering she was experiencing. He saved her two children but later betrayed them. He rose to power thanks to their idiocy. He massacred countless humans and queerats. Finally, he pushed for the plan to eradicate humanity from the face of the planet.
Squealer’s goal may have been well-intentioned and justified, but his methods weren’t. In the end, he got a severe punishment that was worse than death!
6 – Kyuubey (Puella Magi Madoka Magica)
If you were given the chance to grant any of your wishes in exchange for being a magical girl, would you accept? This is the proposition Kyuubey has for you. You would probably accept his offer. But Kyuubey has a hidden agenda—a selfish agenda that can only bring suffering.
To many people, this character is wicked. His goal is to save the universe from entropy. Kyuubey will accomplish this endeavor with the most efficient and logical method. He has no remorse if his methods cause suffering as long as the goal is met. He lacks honor as he is a kind of trickster. Kyuubey is certainly not the cute critter he seems to be.
5 – Sōsuke Aizen (Bleach)
Sosuke Aizen is one cool villain, so how could anyone hate him? Well, he’s as coldhearted as he is cool. Remember the time when he was still wearing his glasses and was walking around like some good samaritan? It was all a lie! He is one of the most evil villains in the series.
He’s powerful but he doesn’t do the dirty work himself. He manipulates and deceives others to do his bidding. He could have been a really admirable villain. Instead, he chose to sit back, hold down his powers, and let others do his evil acts. Most of the time.
4 – Makoto Itou (School Days)
If you’ve watched School Days, then I know that you’ve been scarred for life. After all, the final episode was one of the most horrifying in anime history. And the main culprit behind it all was Makoto Itou!
Makoto is a very divisive figure. Some believed he was horrible and deserved to die. He had everything in his life but craved for more. He was greedy, a liar, a coward, and a cheater. His womanizing caused a lot of suffering and devastation. In regards to his unceremonious death, I felt he had it coming!
3 – Naraku (Inuyasha)
Every time one hears the name of Naraku, an uncontrollable rage from within inexplicably materializes. It’s because Naraku is a big coward! Throughout the series, he just runs around and hides behind all sorts of barriers. It is sad that someone so powerful is such a wimp. He’s also good at manipulating people and breaking relationships.
You would never want to mess with Naraku. He’ll turn everyone against you. Then, he’ll hide and watch you suffer. He is easily one of the more despicable villains out there.
2 – Envy (Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood)
For the sake of simplicity, I’m going to refer to Envy as it. The gender of this character is an absolute mystery! But that’s not the subject matter here. We’re here to talk about why Envy is hated.
The sin of envy is an ugly thing. This is the main trait this character possesses. And it has envy towards humanity! It killed a child just to start a senseless war. Envy is a manipulator and a malicious trickster. It will go to the lowest depths just to achieve its goals.
1 – Shou Tucker (Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood)
I’m sure the number one pick won't surprise you. Here is undoubtedly the most hated anime character ever, Shou Tucker!
He may be just a minor character in Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, but what he did was utterly unforgivable. He turned his own daughter and their pet dog into a chimera. Yes, he combined them, and left them to suffer with no way to change back. It was such a horrific, immoral, and abhorrent act! This wasn't even the first time he did this. He performed the same procedure to his wife years before.
Just look at that face. I know you want to punch him and smash his glasses through his face. I’m sure many people hate him so much that they wished for him to suffer a fate worse than death. Unfortunately, he died swiftly. At least he got to receive the number one spot here.
