Funny anime characters are one of the critical elements for a successful anime. They add depth and texture and a way of telling a story with laughter. It can range from a grin and chuckle to full-on ROFLMAO. Anime and manga in many different genres—shonen, shojo, isekai, romance, and many others—all try to implement humor to balance out the emotions in their stories.

1. Zenitsu Agatsuma (Demon Slayer)

Zenitsu is a ridiculous character that most people either love or hate. There’s something about this guy who can pull off a one-shot kill, then convince himself he’s weaker than a five-year-old. Though the jokes can be repetitive, they always get me.

2. Koro-Sensei (Assassination Classroom)

Korosensei is one of the goofiest and lovable characters, which is ironic knowing his backstory. He always has a smile on his face, and the way he looks makes for some great jokes. In anime, this yellow moon-shattering squid man is one of the most relatable characters.

Assassination Classroom is the way to go if you're looking for some cheerful humor to offset your depression.

3. Jiraiya-Sensei (Naruto)

It would be a big mistake if we didn't include the pervy sage on this list. Even though Jiraiya is one of the most powerful characters in the series, he hasn't been earnest. This is how it should be: He has gone above and beyond typical human desires, but then he went back down and maxed out his lust stat.

The man wants to do research for his book, which he does by looking at naked women, of course. He only occasionally helps ninjas who become gods in their village. Because of his silly antics, this wacky old badass gives Naruto anime a lot of its humor.

4. Gintoki Sakata (Gintama)

This man's facial expressions alone would be enough to put him on this list. There's no human emotion that can't be shown through Gintoki's pictures. He acts similar to Kazuma because he doesn't give a damn about looking like a perfect hero.

Some people dislike him because he is lazy, petty, and stupid, and he has a crush on Strawberry Milk. Plus, he breaks the fourth wall in every show.

5. Saitama (One Punch Man)

The fact that Saitama isn't funny is what makes him so amusing. This man never tries to be witty or entertaining. He appears to be bored out of his mind in nearly every scene. But, it's precisely because of this that he's so funny. He's far too powerful to be forced to change his demeanor, so he takes out national threats while worrying about upcoming bills.

6. Natsu Dragneel (Fairy Tale)

Natsu Dragneel, the dragon slayer who eats fire, is spontaneous, resourceful, and outgoing. He exudes boundless energy and charms those around him. He has a way of energizing and entertaining a crowd.

He is impulsive and frequently brings Lucy and his other close friends along on his impromptu adventures. Natsu is friendly and outspoken and exudes a warmth that attracts others.

7. Sasha Blouse (Attack on Titan)

Sasha's insatiable hunger has resulted in some hilarious moments, most notably the potato incident at boot camp. And because she's a minor character, you can always count on her to do something outrageous and amusing when the spotlight is on her, which gives a little rest from the gruesome and tragic theme of Attack on Titan.

8. Doraemon (Doraemon)

Doraemon is an intelligent, funny, kind-hearted, helpful, friendly, outgoing, big-mouthed character. He frequently assists his wimpy best friend, Nobita. With his high-tech gadgets, every time Nobita comes home crying and whining about a bad day, he often asks Doraemon for something to make him feel better. As a result, there is often an unwelcome event at the end of the journey.

9. Monkey D. Luffy (One Piece)

Despite his position as captain, Luffy does not take his responsibilities seriously, and he is rarely seen being severe or enforcing rules on his crew. That said, he cares about protecting his crew members. It's just that he approaches problems with a relaxed and unconcerned demeanor. He'd rather be silly or funny, than stern.

10. Maeda (Asobi Asobase)

Like the previous choice, Maeda is a taste that takes time to develop. Asobi Asobase is the energetic, outgoing youngster in the comedic anime genre. And this youngster has reached the summit of his profession.

Hanako's butler has the strange ability to appear out of nowhere and continually misunderstands things. He has a laser cannon in his bum, which is fortunate. On second thought, I'm not sure it was a stroke of good fortune, but it made him the butt of some hilarious jokes.

11. Konata Izumi (Lucky Star)

Konata is sarcastic and bizarre, but it's always playful and good-natured. Despite her talents, she is a slacker, so her grades are low. Whenever her best friend likes someone, she makes fun of them. She is one of the main characters in the Lucky Star series and is the Lucky Star crew's leader.

12. Mamoru Takamura (Hajime no Ippo)

Takamura, the list's most unsubtle comedian, derives humor from his extreme self-confidence and the desire to use classless bathroom/anatomy humor.

He's probably the most muscular boxer in the Hajime no Ippo universe. Still, he has no hesitation about being a total buffoon and it's hard to tell whether it's endearing or obnoxious.

13. Hanamichi Sakuragi (Slam Dunk)

Hanamichi Sakuragi has the same general attitude as Mamoru Takamura, but only a fraction of his expertise. Initially, he joins basketball to impress a girl he likes, and insists on becoming a star player despite not knowing the rules. He's a clown with the potential to be a "Tensai Basket Man," as he repeatedly contends in the series. It always cracks me up when Sakuragi reverts to his chibi-self and does those crazy antics, like referring to Akagi as Gori, short for gorilla.

14. Saiki (The Disastrous Life of Saiki K.)

The Disastrous Life of Saiki K ran for fifty episodes between 2016-18. A lot of the characters in the show are amusing, but whenever Saiki cracked a smile, everyone else did, too. The joke was usually on him, though. He was the funniest character mainly because he was usually so earnest in reacting to the things happening to him.

As a powerful psychic, Saiki has a strong desire to live a normal life, so being a psychic is a significant burden. He can read people's minds, so all movies are spoiled for him. He can also accidentally turn people to stone when he doesn't have his glasses on. Being Saiki is a struggle.

15. Mr. Satan (Dragon Ball)

Mr. Satan is widely regarded as the most potent man alive and a celebrity hero worldwide. He is Videl's father, Gohan's father-in-law, and Pan's maternal grandfather. He often perceives himself as a refined and mighty martial artist, but he is just a cowardly man who always hides during battle.
