Known as “Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic” and “Magi: The Kingdom of Magic,” Magi is a series known for its overwhelming show of magic, its supernatural Djinns, its dangerous dungeons, its remarkable characters, and its dark (sometimes also light) and twisted plot.

All around the world, mysterious labyrinths called “Dungeons” suddenly appears with their existence shrouded by darkness. It is said that an unimaginable amount of wealth and power can be possessed once these dungeons are conquered. Conquerors become kings that are granted keys to the truth about the world.

One day, an enigmatic boy named Aladdin with his friend “djinn in a golden flute” Ugo are released into the world to venture deeper and deeper into the essence of things. Along the way, Aladdin meets a brazen young man named Alibaba whose fate shall soon be tied to his own. What magical event shall transpire? Will they uncover the truth about the world?

So how is Magi and DanMachi similar in any way? First, they’re both denizens of the “Fantasy” genre. Second, the “dungeon” element used in both of them is very apparent. Third, well…I could go on and on but all I’m saying is that they’re pretty much alike except that Magi is more mainstream while DanMachi is ephemeral.

The city of Orario, they say there’s a gigantic labyrinth underneath that people simply call the “Dungeon!” This dungeon lures adventurers from all around the world, all of which are hopefuls who desires riches, fame, and power. Bell Cranel is a fresh meat, and he seriously wants to become a great and dignified adventurer. He’s also the sole member of Hestia’s guild. With dreams and hopes before them, Bell strives to reach his goal of becoming what he wants while Hestia tries to amass fame for her guild and get more members.

Do you like magic? Given a chance, would you take the opportunity to become a magical girl and wield insurmountable power? Well, if you haven’t seen Puella Magi Madoka Magica before, then I’ll warn you now to stay away from cute mystical critters whimsically granting magical powers. You won’t like the consequences of gaining magic in this scenario.

Madoka is your usual student. There’s nothing unusual about her mundane everyday life unless you look closer into the big picture. Magical girls do exists! Well, those and deadly witches as well. They’re like two sides of the same coin.

When a magical creature known as “Kyubey” comes to Madoka to ask her to become a magical girl, her life is thrown into disparity! Madoka’s peaceful life is shattered as things, both magical and dark, tries to cause rampage in every corner.

6. Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood

In a way, alchemy is magic; but it follows a set of scientific rules. One of the most important of these rules is—the Law of Equivalent Exchange.

The Elric brothers had to learn the Law of Equivalent Exchange in the harshest of ways. They practiced one of the greatest taboo in alchemy, bringing the dead back to life. Of course, it was a failure, and to add injury to insult, they even lost their bodies. Edward lost some limbs while Alphonse lost his whole body. Fortunately, through alchemy, Edward was able to transfer Alphonse soul into a suit of armor.

Everything has lead to the Elric brothers being state alchemists. Their goal now is to find a way to restore their bodies by means of hunting the peculiar Philosopher’s Stone. Will they be able fulfill their mission or will they yet again stumble upon another alchemic danger?

If you were bewildered by the magical adventure presented by Magi, then now it’s time for you to embark on a much bigger adventure. And yes, what I’m talking about here is—One Piece! It’s a pirate adventure grander than life!

The golden age of pirates—it’s finally happening! And so, people from around the world are embarking on their own journeys to become pirates, reach the grand line, and claim One Piece, in that order. The journey is actually the treasure in itself but, who doesn’t want to find out what really is at the end?

For Monkey D. Luffy and the rest of the Strawhat Crew, the voyage is just beginning and many trials and challenges shall test them to their utmost limits. Become legendary, become glorious, become the PIRATE KING!

If there’s one thing that closely ties Magi and Akame ga Kill together it is—the dark truth about the world! The world and life in general are two fantastical things but, what lies behind them is much gruesome and darker than you think. Controversies, conspiracies, death, the truth in the shadows—you’ll find these as well In Akame ga Kill!

In the shadows of a corrupt and immoral society, there exists an assassin group whose purpose is to weed out the evil. They are known as “Night Raid” and they’re out to slaughter the baddies. It isn’t one-sided though because the villains of the current society are not easy to take down. The government is corrupt as it is full of avarice and greed. Will Night Raid be able to shed a light of hope and help reform the rotten society?

The dark mixture of magic, action, and the plot is what makes up anime shows of the caliber of Magi. And mind, here’s another one (one of the grandest actually), it’s—Fate/Zero!

The “Holy Grail” is such that can grant any wish or desire. It’s omnipotent and powerful that it already caused the great wars in the past. What’s surprising is, the wars were intense that not one soul claimed victory. With the forthcoming 4th Holy Grail War, will someone finally be able to grasp victory?

The war clad with darkness and magic ensues into an all-out battle to see who’s worthy enough to seize everything. Let the Holy Grail War begin!

10. Shaman King

It’s a battle of spirits with shamans summoning ghost/soul allies in this one. And since we’re talking about the same likeness in terms of action and supernatural powers as Magi, let’s bring Shaman King on the stage!

Yoh Asakura is a shaman. He is able to communicate and talk with spirits and ghosts. There’s more to that though, shamans actually can fight with supernatural abilities using the spirits as their oversouls. Soul fusion or oversoul, the spirits dictates the world of the shaman. And soon, a tournament involving shamans and the fate of the world shall kick off to pick the soon-to-be Shaman King! Is Yoh worthy enough to take on the challenge?
