About Kono Subarashii Sekai Sekai ni Shukufuku wo!

KonoSuba is actually short for Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo! which in turn means God’s Blessing on this Wonderful World! So what’s god’s blessing on this wonderful world? Perhaps it’s the new hero, Kazuma Satou! He died comically on Earth and now the goddess Aqua grants him the chance to live in a fantasy world. When asked to take any one thing on his journey, Satou wackily picks Aqua. Whoa there!!!

The new fantasy world caters features a lot of mischief and comic relief. Maybe it was the right decision for Satou all along! Having Aqua on his side leads to more moments that will any viewer smile and laugh.

If you enjoyed this series, here is a list to help you pick your next anime that is similar to KonoSuba!

1. Ixion Saga DT

When it comes to comic relief and funny dimensional transfers to game-like worlds, Ixion Saga DT is a perfect match with KonoSuba.

Kon Hokaze was just an average gamer (much like everyone else) when one day, he gets transferred to another world. The world is known as Mora and it is full of mysterious energy called Alma. But that’s not the point! The point is Kon is stuck in a world he doesn’t know and is compelled to join a band of misfits to traverse the path fate has for them.

This show is hilarious to a ball-wrecking level (and I mean that literally for the show.) Ixion Saga DT is a show that never seems to run out of gimmicks and funny moments.

2. Outbreak Company

Living in another world for a mission, the protagonist of Outbreak Company is in the same boat as the protagonist of KonoSuba! But instead of fighting, the hero here has to be an ambassador of peace and cultural exchange.

Kanou Shinichi is the best fit for the job! He may be a shut-in but his knowledge in moe and similar ideas is unparalleled. Thus, he was chosen as an ambassador for the newly discovered world! Will he succeed in building the bridge between this world and the other?

With otaku knowledge as the foundation, Outbreak Company has the power to cause an outbreak of laughter and chuckles to anyone who watches it!

3. DanMachi (Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?)

Set in a fantasy world that has similar elements to a game, DanMachi offers a gigantic dungeon for any courageous adventurer to explore. Are there challenging monster battles and amazing treasures? Definitely! Will it be okay to pick-up girls along the way? That’s what we’ll find out!

Bell Cranel is a newbie adventurer. Hestia is a tiny goddess with a big dream. Together, they partner up to form a guild. Bell wants to be the best while Hestia wants remarkable followers. Will they be able to reach their dreams?

DanMachi might give a generic vibe but it’s actually pretty interesting. It’s so interesting that it’ll keep you glued till the end!

4. Dog Days

What’s so in about summoning people from Earth these days? Yet again, another human is sent to travel to another world!

The republic of Biscotti is in big trouble! It is in danger of being invaded by the Galette Leo Knights. And so, to save the country and protect its future, Princess Milchore takes the matter into her own hands and summons a hero from Earth. Cinque is that hero! He’s just an average junior high school student but he has been chosen to lead the frontlines and secure victory.

Tread the other world, fight battles, and save stuff. Dog Days is another zero-to-hero-human-sent-to-another-world anime to enjoy!

5. Utawarerumono: Itsuwari no Kamen

No memories, no recollections, no ideas, no nothing! A young man is in a very unusual situation. He’s in the middle of nowhere, an unfamiliar snowy plain to be exact! And just as he wakes up, a gigantic monster chases him! Such a streak of misfortune to befallen him. It’s a good thing that an animal-like girl comes to save him.

Haku is his name now, and Kuon is his new companion. They shall live in the world raring for the unexpected. Will everything turn out well in the end?

This show presents some similarities with KonoSuba. It’s episodic but it also has an overarching storyline. It’s quirky and amusing at one time and serious another; something many fans can appreciate.

6. Log Horizon

Imagine being stuck in a virtual online game! That’s the crazy predicament for the characters of Log Horizon. Fortunately, being stuck in Elder Tale doesn’t have a lethal consequence. But they still have to carry the psychological burden.

Years in the future, a massively popular virtual online game called Elder Tale becomes a hit! Unexpectedly though, this game forces a lot of players to play indefinitely without any means to escape. And so, the players were inclined to pass the time and live day by day in a game that’s close to reality but just not close enough.

Without the threat of harm or death, the players of Elder Tale are compelled to act smart and swiftly to adjust to the new world they now live in. How long will they be inside the game?

7. Hai to Gensou no Grimgar (Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash)

Hai to Gensou no Grimgar

Now let’s proceed to the serious side of getting transported into a game-like world. I say serious because for Haruhiro and the rest of the cast, suddenly waking up in a world that is similar to a game isn’t necessarily just fun and games! Being trapped in an unknown world isn’t as dreamy as it was thought out to be.

One day, a group of youths finds themselves caught in the bosom of darkness. After waking up and coming to their senses, they find out that they’re in an unexplored land, completely different from what they were used to. They all have no memories in a world that feels strange and foreign. Idling is not an option and they are forced to move forward and start out as volunteer soldiers in the new world.

No ideal set-up, no dreamy atmosphere, just a harsh reality! Believe me, Hai to Gensou no Grimgar would be the most realistic scenario if one would ever be granted the opportunity to enter a game-like world.

8. No Game No Life

Already considered the best gamer in the world, Blank (the combined entity of Sora and Shiro) grabs the chance to escape their dull world and transition to a more interesting one. And their dreams come true—they get invited to Disboard! Disboard is a wold riled by the God of Games, Tet. And in this world, everything is decided by games.

Using their wits and combined talents, Sora and Shiro take on the challenges of the new world and helps the Imanity race to level up from the depths of its abysmal low ranking.

This might be the best among the choices here. This anime compels viewers to think until their minds burst. That’s how great No Game No Life is!

9. Gate: Jieitai Kanochi nite, Kaku Tatakaeri

Gate: Jieitai Kanochi nite, Kaku Tatakaeri

An invasion is coming from a fantasy world but they don’t what’s in store for them on Earth. Why? The denizens of the alternate world live in a medieval fantasy while those on Earth have soldiers with guns and tanks. Who do you think will win? Of course those with guns and tanks! Well, the other side does have dragons and magic but still…

Youji Itami is one lucky man! He’s a great soldier and he gets to go to the alternate world. And he doesn’t even have to fight, he can bring peace through calm negotiations. And so, the stuff of his dreams are given the chance to be fulfilled. Youji is actually an otaku and now he can accomplish everything an otaku only dreams about.

It’s pretty silly when fantastical invaders oppose this world with all its technological innovations. It gets more interesting when the tables are turned and Earth is the one invading! Just what would be the outcome? Will there be peace, war, or a fit of whackiness?

10. Hataraku Maou-sama! (The Devil is a Part-timer!)

The Devil is a Part-timer!

Had enough of one-way travel stories from a generic formula? Well, Hataraku Maou-sama showcases the opposite situation! Instead of humans from this world crossing to the other side, the demon king himself, Sadao Maou, crosses to this world!

After nearly suffering complete devastation, Sadao decides to retreat to Earth. Together with his right-hand man, Ashiya, both of them try to adapt to their new world. They both have limited powers on Earth but the hero, Emilia, is still after them! Will things on Earth get messed up?

Sadao Maou says he’s busy flipping burgers so scratch all the stuff about revenge, invasions, and wreaking havoc! This demon lord is busy cooking for a fast food joint and rising in the corporate world! Oh, he’s also busy penny-pinching so…no time for demonic stuff right now!

Thanks for the suggestions, Cheeky Kid! I just finished watching Konosuba and was looking for something similar to enjoy.

I loved Aqua too, btw. She's so overpowered. Yet also so ... clueless. LOL.
