1. Gyakkyou Burai Kaiji: Ultimate Survivor

It is doleful to state this, but in reality, gambling is a very rare theme in anime. In fact, Kakegurui is a perfect example of a show that possesses a theme that is as scarce as a hen’s teeth. As luck would have it, however, there is actually another show that has realistic gambling as its core motif. The title of the show is none other than—Gyakkyou Burai Kaiji: Ultimate Survivor!

Gyakyou Burai Kaiji: Ultimate Survivor may be around a decade old, but it is still very relevant. To tell the truth, if you put it side-by-side with Kakegurui, you wouldn’t even mind its visuals because Kakegurui has it beat when it comes to madcap facial expressions. In terms of plot, it is as thrilling as any risk-based game should be! A man gets into debt, ends up in a gambling cruise, and gambles with stakes as high as the skies!

Life is a gamble. It comes with all sorts of uncontrollable risks and factors. Nevertheless, we can dictate any assumption of risks to some extent. Mind you, this is one of them! Are you going to pick up Gyakkyou Burai Kaiji: Ultimate Survivor and potentially make it satiate the appetite of the risk-seeking daredevil inside of you? Or will you play it safe and miss a whole world of thrill? Flip a coin and let your luck decide!

Kill la Kill

2. Kill la Kill

Frankly speaking, watching Kill la Kill is like watching Kakegurui—but with superb amounts of action added into the fray! Both anime shows are very similar. I won’t be detailing much as to spoil, but here’s one similarity: in both shows, there exists the all-powerful student council!

Kill la Kill tells a story of vengeance like no other! Its main character, Ryuuko Matoi, is bent on seeking justice for her deceased father. She has the fighting skills and the battle tools. The only thing she has to do now is to enter a certain agonistic academy and defeat the powerful student council that rules the entire school.

Action and style—both of these are overwhelmingly present in this anime! In fact, when watching this show, it is best not to consider anything else and just let yourself be submerged in its ocean of action and style. Trust me, when it comes to stylish action, Kill la Kill is one of the best in the world! I thoroughly enjoyed it and I’m sure you’ll do too.

No Game No Life

3. No Game No Life

At the end of the day, gambling is intrinsically just a game. Every game is a gamble whereas every gamble is also a game. And since we’re talking about games, it is almost a mortal sin not to talk about No Game No Life!

I’m telling you now, No Game No Life is one of my most favorite anime. Not only is it about games, it is also about strategies and tactics. It is amazing how this show can tickle the mind and flabbergast it with wonder. It is also an eye candy to boot with its spectacular and colorful visuals. But most of all, it is a show with staging and execution molded to their most brilliant luminosity!

I for one wish to venture into Disboard—the world where everything is decided by games—and live having everlasting fun with the spirit of playfulness! After all, who doesn’t want to have fun? As No Game No Life is one of my most favorite anime, I wholeheartedly recommend it for watching.

Death Parade

4. Death Parade

Life is crazy, but so is death! In Death Parade, there are stakes even in the afterlife. However, there are only two outcomes: Reincarnation and Void!

Games are played in Death Parade, but not in the way they should be. The games are rigged in such a way that they are capable of extracting the purest intention and unmitigated nature of the human soul. As such, there are absolutely no holds barred in death, which makes everything all the more thrilling!

If you are deeply curious about the concepts of life and death, the human psyche, and the way games intermingle with all the aforementioned notions, then watch on! Death Parade is a luminous gem that deserves to be uncovered!

5. Youkoso Jitsuryoku Shijou Shugi no Kyoushitsu e (Classroom of the Elite)

Before anything else, I would like to let you know that both Kakegurui and Classroom of the Elite both came out in the same season of the same year. As a matter of fact, during the time of their season airing, I thought they were the same thing! In actuality, however, despite the differences of both shows, they are very similar in such a way that they are the brother-and-sister pair of the summer anime season of 2017.

Classroom of the Elite takes place in an elite school where smarts and wits are everything! In this school, there is no such thing as cheating. As long as one plays by the rules, everything is permitted! Nevertheless, there are rankings. Class A is where highest ranking students go while Class D is where the lowest ranking students end up. While there is a clear discrimination between the classes, their actions can ultimately dictate the merits and privileges they get to enjoy.

Just like Kakegurui, Classroom of the Elite is about turning the odds despite overwhelming adversity. This is where smarts and wits come in! With great knowledge comes great power. And with great power comes great responsibility. So with that, I have come to share this interesting anime with you. It might have flown right off your radar before, but I tell you this: “It takes great talent and skill to conceal one’s talent and skill.”

What are you going to watch next?
