“Corpse Party: Tortured Souls” is the anime adaptation of the infamous horror video game “Corpse Party.” Taking horror to the next level, this evolved into the manga and anime platform in order to bring the fear to more people. Personally, I think this is one of the best horror anime you could find out there. Ghosts, violence, gore, blood—everything scary and horrific is in it! Trust me, you’d never EVER want to get trapped in Heavenly Host Elementary School—the dreadful school in this anime.

Yomiyama North Middle School’s Class 3-3 fosters a terrible past and a dreadful secret! A student that died in the past started it all!
Present day, Kouichi Sakakibara transfers to the school in Class 3-3. The same day, he notices something peculiar, one student is treated as if she wasn’t existing at all! The student is Mei Misaki, and she is treated as the “Another.” Just the slightest bit of interaction or mishandling of the rules of the curse will cause death. That’s right—death is what surrounds class 3-3! The cause is unknown, but the individual marked as “Another” is the answer!
2. Higurashi no Naku Koro ni
If you just want a show where everyone’s batsh*t crazy and brimming with violence, then Higurashi no Naku Koro ni is for you! It’s crazy, it’s insane! Madness is what makes this show gleam. Now couple that with lots of ferocity and insanity, and you’ve got—a truly dreadful show.
Hinamizawa village might seem like an ordinary, peaceful village but, vile secrets are actually hidden deep beneath its passive visage. Keiichi Maebara is a new resident and he already has close friends at school. But, as the annual festival looms close, so does the fearsome secrets of the village too.
Keiichi is left confused. He has not the slightest idea of what is happening. He asks his friends but that was a fatal mistake! As he comes closer to the truth, Keiichi witnesses a twist of fate involving brutality, madness, and cruelty.
3. Elfen Lied
Traumatizing and heart-wrenching – that’s how I would describe this show! Traumatizing because of the horrific gore contained in it. Heart-wrenching because of its cruel and dramatic story. Overall, Elfen Lied is a terrifying show that is capable of tearing feelings apart just o induce fear and quite a bit of melodramatic emotions.
Lucy is a diclonius and she’s bent on destroying humanity. She’s been trapped and subjected to experiments in a secret facility for some time now, so when she finally escapes—all hell breaks loose! With her vectors and psychic abilities, she thrashes upon mankind with ill-intent and extreme loathe.
Who can stop this monster? What drove her to detest humanity that much? One thing’s for sure now—humanity will be on the brink of extinction if Lucy is not stopped!
4. Gakkou Gurashi!
With a school setting to showcase the horror, “Gakkou Gurashi” is very similar to Corpse Party in terms of violence and traumatizing deaths. And while “Gakkou Gurashi!” is not as intense and extreme as Corpse Party, it still does creep and horrify with its cruelty-based reality setting and unstable mentality approach.
Megurigaoka Private High School is the beloved school of Yuki Takeya. She loves it so much that she never wants to leave. The club she’s currently in is called the “School Living Club.” Schooling together with friends, school life is full of bliss and happiness—all in the perceived reality of Yuki.
The truth is—a zombie apocalypse has actually broke out and the school is the safe haven of Yuki and friends. What she perceives is different though. Everything’s an illusion for Yuki—all just waiting to be mercilessly shattered!
5. Danganronpa: The Animation
A crazy school, deranged students, mystery, and senseless killings—sounds a lot like Corpse Party, right? But well, “Danganronpa: The Animation” isn’t exactly a horror anime but it’s horrifying in its own ways. After all, this show embodies the true meaning of DESPAIR!
Who did it? Who’s the killer? Hope’s Peak Academy isn’t what it has lived up to be. It’s a school full of despair! Fifteen students have enrolled this year only to meet the suspicious principal, Monokuma!
The drill is—trap everyone in the school and make them solve the mystery of one of their classmate’s death. If the killer successfully goes through the challenge undiscovered, he/she graduates. If the students discovers the killer, the killer is executed and the game begins anew with the remaining students!
6. Umineko no Naku Koro ni
You can run but can never hide! Umineko no Naku Koro ni features an atrocious island you can never hope to escape from. It’s all in the name of despair! Trapped, no escape, fear of death—hope is nil in the gruesome mansion of desolation!
On the island of Rokkenjima, a deadly survival scuffle is about to begin! It’s the time of the year when the Ushiromiya family meets and bands together. This year, everything’s a lot different! The head of the family is about to die and a vicious force is looming in the corner!
A powerful storm blocks off the island. A desperate struggle occurs! Who will die? What in the world is happening in this island? A bout stuck in the borders of fantasy and reality shall shake the foundations of Rokkenjima Island and the Ushiromiya family.

It’s extremely difficult to locate and barge into this village as it’s also extremely difficult to escape from.
What is the truth about Nanakimura Village? Abandon your past to learn the answers. And that is only—if your past doesn’t haunt you back!
From the title itself, one would generalize that a massive amount of blood is shed in this show. And they are correct! Blood-C is one of the bloodiest horror anime shows out there. And to top all that, it also is one of the most brutal!

Bloodbath is inevitable so just join the battle royale and try to survive until the end. Now, don’t lose your sanity just yet because a grand event of horrific action and twisted aftermath is coming!
The God of Space and Time “Deus Ex Machina” is deteriorating and a survival game is the answer to choosing the successor. 12 chosen participants are given unique diaries that can predict the future in order to settle it out themselves and kill one another. Only one is allowed to win and claim the title of “God.” Who will it be? What means are the “Diary Holders” going to use in order to survive? What does the future hold? The Future Diary Survival Game is about to begin!
10. Boku dake ga Inai Machi (ERASED)
If you were really paying attention to the story of Corpse Party, then you’d realize that there’s a circumstance in it that’s really similar with Boku dake ga Inai Machi. And that is—the serial abduction of kids! It’s gruesome to think about and witness but at least ERASED scaled it down and resolved it quite well--unlike Corpse Party that blew it out to extensive proportions. Overall though, ERASED is more of a mystery-thriller show than horror, and unexpectedly—one of the best of its kind!
REVIVAL—Satoru Fujinuma has this peculiar power. It enables him to go back in time to prevent unfortunate events and disasters from happening. Until his mother’s untimely death, REVIVAL only allowed him to go back in time for like a few minutes. But then, in an unexpected twist, his mother’s death triggered his REVIVAL to send him back 18 years in the past!
Is it just a coincidence? What is the meaning of it all? What connects his future and his mother’s death to the past? A mystery-cracking jump to the past concerning a string of cruel murders is about to be unveiled!

None of these on the list are like corpse party... i think mayoiga is as clost as it can get but these anime doesn't give any horror perspective. If any of you have read Ibitsu manga then you know the feeling of hopelessness and scared sh*tless. Most of anime on the list are mystery crime solve and thriller genre. Mayoiga and Corpse party has some similar aspects... I think we need Horror with vengeful spirit not "Murder" crime sh*t. Dont tell me that you watch danganronpa and get scared... thats bullsh*t
