Boku dake ga Inai Machi (ERASED)

Go "Revival" all the way with the Anime like Boku dake ga Inai Machi!

Lured in by the mysterious aura of Boku dake ga Inai Machi (also known as ERASED)? Don't deny it now, I'm sure it did lure you into the deep sea of controversy and obscurity. Ain't it fascinating and intriguing? Besides those, this anime show is also full of emotions, feelings, and even thrills! That's ERASED for you!

A guy jumps to pass with "Revival" in order to correct a grave mistake. It's a "second chance" to fix things once and for all! But will it really be that easy? Messing with time and causality is way complicated than it seems. But when it comes to what's right, second chances are fully welcome. That's the story of this spectacular, brilliant show in a nutshell.

And so, to give you more options and choices, I'm recommending the closest stories (anime shows) I know with respect to this one. So here it goes, indulge yourself with the Anime like Boku dake ga Inai Machi! Erase the tragic past and move towards the wonderful future!

Boku dake ga Inai Machi - Trailer

1. Steins;Gate

Desperately tinkering with the past just to change an inevitable outcome? Well that definitely sounds like Steins;Gate, right? And mind you, I personally think this is the most similar title with respect to Boku dake ga Inai Machi.

Time travel, destiny reversal, saving a girl, psychological hints—I’d say Steins;Gate really brings it all! It’s almost like it’s a twin with ERASED! I for one have watched both and I can say that they both are more than what one could expect and even beyond.

Change the past, alter the future. Add some madness and a viciously dark plot along with that and you’ve got—an anime worthy of praise for the thrills!

2. Puella Magi Madoka Magica

So this is another one of those shows riddled with out-of-this-world twists and mind messes. And oh, there’s even some crazy time-loop element thrown into this chaos. Let’s give it up for—Puella Magi Madoka Magika!

Cute little magical girls, an adorable and fluffy pet-like creature, a seemingly normal life clad with a bit of magic—what could possibly go wrong! Except that things are here are not really what they seem, we are led to forget that all magic actually comes with a price! And for Puella Magi Madoka Magika, the price is actually GRAVE!

Magic mayhem, witchery, evil cutesy creature—what started up as an innocent magical girl vibe progresses into something sinister! Well, that’s this show for you! With this one, you’re in for a chaotic thrill-ride!

3. Zetsuen no Tempest

Zetsuen no Tempest

Ever heard of Tempest? The one by Shakespeare? Well, if you know it and realize that it ain’t easy reading and making something out of Shakespeare’s books, then this anime’s the same—in a brilliant way!

Zetsuen no Tempest is full of mind games and unexpected twists. One second you’re in a normal world, then in another—you’re trapped in a war between the space and time. The trees of Genesis and Exodus are at war, and the only chance of redemption is figuring out the mystery of what’s going on.

This show is smart as it is mysterious so prepare yourself by sharpening your wits on-end.

4. Shinsekai Yori (From The New World)

What the hell happened to the world? Why’s it in ruins? Why’s there only this eerie town remaining? And to top it all, even in the remaining town, things are as crazy as what the current situation of the world is.

Hundreds and thousands of years into the future, humanity is dire shape. Yes, people have psychic powers but, everything is balancing on a thin thread of survival. One wrong move and…POOF…extinction! That’s what Shinsekai Yori is standing on!

Shinsekai Yori isn’t your ordinary show! It’s clad with psychological phenomenon that will surely render you MINDF*CKED! It’s beautiful and cruel at the same time. Just wait until you reach the end.

5. Higurashi no Naku Koro ni (When They Cry)

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni

What sorcery is this?! I thought it was just a…WAAAH…what the heck is happening?! Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, you are one enormous mess of show!

I must admit though that Higurashi no Naku Koro ni has a darker atmosphere than Boku dake ga Inai Machi. I mean, ERASED will let you feel all sorts of melancholic feelings and whatnot while Higurashi will make you whack with madness!

All the characters in Higurashi are definitely mad and broken, and that’s what makes it one-of-a-kind. I’m sure the phrases “Expect the Unexpected!” and “Don’t judge a book by its cover!” we’re made for this one.

6. Mirai Nikki (Future Diary)

Mirai Nikki (Future Diary)

Hailed as one of the most brilliant anime in existence (well at least for me) in terms of psychological magnitude, story, and character development (actually, overall), Mirai Nikki truly outshines many other titles!

It’s crazy, it’s whack—it’s one of a kind! Have you even watched it yet? You should! This anime is one that’ll butter-up your heart and mind. Lots of feels, lots of action, lots of mindf*ckery! And oh, there’s even a surprising plot-twist near the end that’ll make you say WHOA!

As much as I’ve said, Mirai Nikki is a kindred spirit of ERASED in one way or another. I really REALLY recommend it so watch away!

7. Anohana (The Flower We Saw That Day)

Anohana? Yes, it’s that anime that brought tears to many. Why it’s here should not be a mystery to you anymore. I mean, it’s about saving a childhood friend and walking towards the bright tomorrow.

Emotional and touching, Anohana is truly a gem! The main character in it tries to solve the mystery of a certain ghost’s problems by bringing everyone together and helping her cross to the other side. That’s it in general! Sounds simple but, tear-worthy!

It’s the same as ERASED but minus all the suspense and darkness. Anohana is lighter but has the same emotional vibe as the subject in question.

8. Colorful

Yes, Colorful is an anime movie but, that doesn’t mean it’s not great. It’s unfair to judge something based on its length. But well, I think Colorful did justice to its duration. It’s, after all, a movie that’s worthy of lots of praise!

Colorful talks about death as it talks also about redemption and changing the wrongs of the past. Life is beautiful and it is precious beyond doubt. The main character’s goal is to re-live life and do what it is right towards a wonderful future.

This show’s about “second chances” and “fixing mistakes” just like how ERASED is about erasing the despicable past and living into a future that is devoid of sadness and misery.

9. Charlotte

Charlotte, in its own way, has its own charm. If only it just expounded more and dig deeper, it could scrape off competition easily with its enormous potential. But well, too late for that. It’s still good anyway and that’s why I’m putting it here.

In one part of the show, there was power tackling about time-travel. Also, the event of plot itself was already in a loop. Now, do you realize the implication of that? Wait for it, wait for it…Charlotte has some similar elements with ERASED!

Time travel and time loop always leads to surprising twists! Charlotte was decent at best so why not try watching it and see the likeness! It might disappoint with the ending but, it’s still good for its other themes.

10. Death Parade

Death Parade
Death Parade

As I've read somewhere else, "If 2015 had Death Parade, then 2016 has Boku dake ga Inai Machi!" Wow, I should say I really agree with this words! Don't you think it's true? I know it is!

Death Parade was brilliant as it was insanely good. It talks about death as if it was a casual walk in the park. Well, it actually did so with simpleness that really much more complicated.

This anime had all the emotions and feeling all over the place. Ah, it was so satisfying to watch it's as if one were part of the show. T

here's mystery, there's psychological pressure—it was very much thrilling just like Boku dake ga Inai Machi. There are concrete differences and Death Parade had its own uniqueness but, it surely has the same essence as ERASED. Less thrill more psychological it is but, nonetheless similar.

After finishing Hunter x Hunter finally, Think Tempest and Steins Gate are on my next to watch list...

Outside of colorful, I've either seen or bookmarked the rest and will get to them eventually.
